My lively Burning Man post was deleted?! September 8, 2005 12:30 PM   Subscribe

My burning man post was deleted because it was "an excuse to talk"? Admittedly, it wasn't the most stellar post, but a lively discussion ensued, and gee, I thought that's why we came here. Besides, any post that allows mefites to express their everlast hatred for "hippies" has got to be doing the community some good, no?

It was a link to sfgate.com/burningman chiding non-burners for being glued to "teh noose." Excuse to talk or not, it was not really a good post.

Telstar: Read my final and only serious reply to the thread and my mini-rant about the deletion here.

If there is a website called Metachat were you can post chatty posts, why post them here?

I thought elim's hilarious performance was worth the price of admission.

brownpau, I tried to make it clear that Katrina was indeed a subject of concern at burningman. Maybe I should have mentioned the calls for help and donations that went out every quarter hour over the burning man micro-watt stations. But hmmm, "chiding"? Maybe I'm learning something about toobheads being overly sensitive to their addiction to the glass tit.

First rule of Burning Man: Don't talk about Burning Man.

Heh. Did you know that there is a real "fight club" at BM?

I thought that was the First Request of People Who Didn't Go To Burning Man?

It was a crap post but some of the comments were mildly amusing.

Also loquacious, thanks for the link. Looks like it's time for me to get a MetaChat account. Over and out.

MetaFilter is about posting links to interesting sites. A generic insert at a newspaper site (sfgate.com/burningman) isn't that novel or interesting, so the post was deleted as it seemed more of an excuse for you to talk about "the burn this year" than to share some interesting things found online.

Telstar: Hey, jackass! Yeah, you. This is a non-tubehead, book-humping, art-fucking, genuine card-carrying naked freakazoid of the Esteemed Secret Order of the Everlasting Gonzo telling you:

"You're being a fucking condescending jackass to a bunch of people that fucking get it, and got it a long time ago, ok?!"

Holy cow, will you please read that aloud to yourself? You sound like Wulf Zendik or something.

Wow, veronica sawyer and loquacious said it all. I'm not even going to bother posting what I was typing about condescension and elitism.

Wooo Zendik Farms! Geeze, I haven't heard someone namedrop Zendik since like '92.

I still want a handmade space bass from them, as long as I don't get eaten by dirt hippies in the proccess.

I was a burningman this year, and had a great fucking time. Your post sucked, though. So don't blame the haters.

Dude, put down the bong. And the koolaid.

OK, one more thing: the only reason I wasn't glued to "teh noose" was because I was at BM! Same goes for all the other burners. What I was trying to get across was that life goes on even during the most horrendous disasters. At BM, there was a lot of concern about Katrina, but folks didn't let it get in the way of many months of planning to have fun, see art, get high, whatever.

Sheesh, maybe I'm digging myself in deeper here.

Jeez that one guy in the 60's that took acid and thought he could fly just totally ruined everything forever.
