Marking Favorite Threads

Obviously there are hundreds of really interesting threads on MetaFilter / AskMetaFilter that I'd like to personally bookmark/tag to read for a later date.

Since we all have individual log-ins, is there any way (aside from adding a bookmark to my already huge bookmark file) of marking a thread as one we like/love/want to read later, so when we log in we can get a list of them? :)

You could always contribute meaningfully to the thread, which adds it to the list of threads you've commented in on your personal profile.

I've got a favorites system partially done (it works for me in ask mefi) and plan to deploy it later this year.

Whatever you do, DON'T just add periods to threads to track them. It's annoying for everyone else.

Sounds like a job for....GreaseMonkey!

It wouldn't be hard to write, and I've been working on a new set of mefi scripts with upgraded capabilities and a cleaner interface. I just have to find a bit of free time...perhaps this weekend.

Unless, of course, Plutor decides to show me up.

Hey let's add content to that comment. I considered doing this at one point (focussing on AskMe), and I think I even got something working. But you either end up with something really plain and uninformative or you ahve to make a bunch of asynchronous hits on Mefi. And I don't think I could do that to JRun. There are things that GM is great for, and there are things that really should be done server-side. And since Mathowie says he's "got a favorites system partially done", I never really came up with the motivation to really polish it. Until then, I'm satisfied with temporary bookmarking.

(From my perspective, the ideal solution would be hella-RSS. Either something like del.icio.us's inbox, or simply RSS feeds for each thread.)

You know, if someone could show me what a good RSS 2.0 comment thread feed looks like, all validated at feedvalidator.org and working in bloglines, etc, and post a link here, I could push out RSS feeds for all threads in about an hour.

It wouldn't be much more strain on the server than simply serving up HTML threads, so I might as well just make the jump and do it.

I've looked at some wordpress comment feeds and MT comment feeds but they're kinda messy. Can anyone point to comment feeds they've followed and have worked out well in their RSS readers?

I'd love to help you, I'm not an XML pro, as such, I just love my aggregator. Maybe you'd have more luck (and more eyes) posting it to AskMe?
