Did someone try to steal my awesome account? I just got my password emailed to me, with a statement that I requested it, but... I didn't request it.

And it went to you, instead of anyone else. Hey, look! A non-issue. posted by angry modem at 4:28 PM on October 19, 2005
I got an email saying I requested The Monkey's password, too. posted by Plutor at 4:29 PM on October 19, 2005
And now that you've mentioned it, expect to get several more. posted by mr_crash_davis at 4:30 PM on October 19, 2005
Sometimes it's innocent. I'm sure there are a lot of monkey-related usernames, and the person is mis-remembering their username/password, swearing up and down that they were The Monkey when maybe they signed up as A Monkey ages ago. posted by mathowie at 4:36 PM on October 19, 2005

I've gotten requests to reset my password mailed from various web services before - it's really nothing to be worried about, unless you think someone has the ability to tap your e-mail and catch these before you get them. Ignoring them is the correct thing to do. posted by odinsdream at 6:27 PM on October 19, 2005
wakko wins the thread.
delmoi and Plutor lose the thread for claming that someone 'won the thread'. posted by delmoi at 6:36 PM on October 19, 2005
It may not necessarily be monkleyfishing. It could be monkey spiders. posted by Smart Dalek at 7:24 PM on October 19, 2005
I can imagine that there are at least three people who would covet such a high-profile account. One of those people . . . has been murdered. posted by jenovus at 10:06 PM on October 19, 2005
I've often "thought" I had a certain username, tried to request the password, and never got the mail. Someone may simply have a bad memory and think they had your username. posted by wackybrit at 5:50 AM on October 20, 2005
Just happened to me this morning. I don't think anyone has a username close to mine, so someone is probably trying to be a sneakypants.
P.S. My password is urabuttlmao; hope that helps. posted by Optimus Chyme at 8:29 AM on October 20, 2005
