Sure, the post was a blatant misuse of metafilter, um, which I have to say was the slightest bit amusing, in part because of its complete audacity and childishness, and because the thread that followed was classic worst-of-mefi, but flag it and get on with your life.

Or just pile on. Why not? The thread is a fine early predictor of who might just loot, rape, and pillage when the world ends. (You know that you can count me out in.)

That there are 148 posts (at last count) to the original thread, followed by a MeTa callout with 70+ posts (at last count) says far more about the culture of Metafilter than it does about this Billistics guy.

Some people here need to scroll past their computers and get out more.

I guess there'll be a new "outrage" to occupy their minds soon enough.....no wonder MeFi's actual value is being found more in the Green than it is in the Blue or the Grey.

All we need is a longboat, and the Green.

So if I deliberately post a blatant self-link and brag about it

The link I clicked took me to Google Video, not some blog, so it's not technically a self-link, is it? I mean, the only way his blog would see a traffic spike is if someone clicked on his profile and went to his website, which is still a-ok (otherwise it wouldn't be an option to list it).

Also, it was pretty goofy. If you posted a video you made featuring your superimposed head doing the Truffle Shuffle, you might not get banninated.

No, it's still a self-link. The self-link rule isn't just about free site traffic: it's also about the lack of judgement we have when considering our own work. Althought that also doesn't apply, because Billistics could see that his work was shitty when he posted this shitty link.
