Slightly spammy answer on AskMe. February 27, 2006 3:17 PM   Subscribe

In this AskMe, I am in agreement with the post that follows mine, as well as of course my own, though I didn't word it as bluntly as Rhomboid did, as I was sort of "typing as thinking". That said, the first response seems vaguely spammy. Full disclosure: I provide web hosting myself, and I still think the response is borderline inappropriate.

The original question is about the only thing spammy.

The responses seem pretty level headed to me. What were you expecting?

Well, 2 out of 3 responses agree that the deal is pretty not worthwhile for the "hostee". The first response, however, is an offer of the same 50/50 split the "hoster" posted about is offering that Rhomboid and I think is somewhere between "not worthwhile" and "a ripoff".

However, given the first responder's followup response, which I saw only after my MeTa post, it looks like he was a little unclear on the perspective of the post at the time he responded, so.. karma balanced, or something.

Really? I'm not reading it that way. I think the response is more like "I think it's a good enough idea that I'd do it, too", rather than an actual offer.

And the question isn't "is it a good deal for me?" but "on the face of it, is it a good deal for the host?". In light of that, the response seems perfectly reasonable.

twiggy, he said it in a rhetorical way. Like "shit, for the money I could make off people's content, I'd offer the same deal." which isn't a call out that any writers should contact him immediately, just that he's saying it to illustrate that it's a good deal for the publisher/host.
