There are hundreds of in-jokes on this site and many others, and I range from enjoyment to mere tolerance for all of them, but ceiling cat is pretty much a "meh". Maybe I feel that way because I posted a comment here in MeTa with some research I did into its origins, including a link to that website and the added piece of info that the website, as far as I can tell, is prior to anything else I can find. And that a Wikipedia contributer claims to be the photographer. So, you know, this wasn't earth-shattering news to me.
On the other hand, this wasn't earth-shattering news to anyone. It was a single-link post to a well-known in-joke site. Whether ceiling cat is funny or not, that's a waste of fucking time. I knew the Ceiling Cat FPP was marginal at best. Then again, I think it is in fact one of the best "in jokes" I've seen around the net in a while. And the MeFi crowd really took the ball and ran with it.
Although I knew it was a risk posting it, in the end I did it because MeFi tracks internet memes. Just because it may have come from somewhere else doesn't mean it shouldn't be posted here.
