oh god, hippies.

Well, at least it's not Burning Man.

I keed. I'm a keeder

Wow. At least half of those are bands I actually like. Well, slap my ass and call me sally.

oh god, hippies.

oh god, cynical posers. Why do you people even show up in meetup threads like this?

What is a noodle dance?

mediareport: don't be so sensitive. There's a difference between playful ball-busting and insults.

Well, slap my ass and call me sally.

*whack*

Lyrics Born, Ricky Skaggs, Cat Power, Elvis Costello...it just goes on and on, sally. Everyone I've known who's been to Bonnaroo says great things about it. Kneejerk anti-hippie jokes do nothing in this case but show the ignorance of the person making them.

It's a very un-hippy lineup this year.

Anyone else actually going?

We're posting past each other, jonmc. For the record, your first comment didn't make the cynical poser cut; I was talking to 517.

You forgot to call me Sally. No tip for you.

(You also for got to mention Marah, Buddy Guy, Beck, Les Claypool, Allen Touissant, Bela Fleck, Sonic Youth and a bunch of others that are up my personal alley. Too bad I'm on the east coast).

even 517's comment should be taken lightly along with monju's pic. The original hippies had great senses of humor about themselves (see Abbie Hoffman).

oh god, the corporate-ethos-challenged!

In fact he did not forget to call you sally.

And yeah. The lineup kicks ass. There is a point in the near future of my life where I must make a choice about seeing Beck, Cypress Hill, Blues Traveler, Les Claypool, and Medeski Martin and Wood. I cannot even wrap my head around it.

I'm traveling down from MA to the festival. Your biggest problem would be that they sold out today.

Yeah, right. If the original hippies had such a great sense of humor about themselves, Freak Out! and We're Only In It For the Money wouldn't be such hilarious albums. But ok, some of them really did have kickass senses of humor. And that relates to 517's moronic comment how again, exactly?

No doubt, the pic is funny.

With you on the pic, yes.

For those of you that are going and have never been to a 'rave' (for lack of a better word for an EDM event)--- absolutely do not miss Sasha.

He is one of the best DJs in history. Although he is a bit challenging and not as crowd-pleasing as some others (Tiesto) but if you stay with his set and let it take you away, it can be a life-changing experience.

Can't we even have a simple post saying "Hey who's going to x festival?" without it turning into a big fight? Jesus people! On a related note, I am going to be attending the kitten declawing/circumcision/childlessness sucks conference in July. Anybody else going to be there? KiDeCircChiSucCon Meet-Up 2006? Woot! Woot!

The hippies will still show up. It's not like they have anything better to do.

That would be a painful festival to go to, half the time I'd be torn between 2 or more acts to go see.

hippy bashing is so passe'

This is yet another lame/gay/fluffy callout about dios. A well-disguised one, still...

So is this like the American version of Glastonbury, without the mud?
posted by funambulist at 3:32 PM on June 12, 2006

Heh. I went to see Dios Malos at the Exit/In just last week. They rock.
posted by anotherpanacea at 3:35 PM on June 12, 2006

It is, in fact, America's passe-time.
posted by cortex at 3:37 PM on June 12, 2006

Sooo...I'll try one more time.

Anyone actually going?
posted by rollbiz at 4:26 PM on June 12, 2006

I was going go to but money is scarce so we had to sell our tickets on eBay. But if I still was planning on being there I would be down for a meet-up.

oh god, cynical posers. Why do you people even show up in meetup threads like this?

Trust me, the cynical posers have all done all these festivals. The very ones named. And they know that they suck, that the music is bad. That the people are jackasses. Really. They've been there, they've seen, they've gotten over it, and they're just trying to use their sarcasm as a tool to help us from making the same mistakes.

Either that, or it's the same old make-fun-of-what-you've-never-experienced-so-you-don't-feel-you're-missing-out kind of bullshit.

I reserve judgment.

has anyone ranking on the hippies even read the list of performers?

someone remind me to do this for this next year please.

[not going, but a friend is. good old indiana is much closer to bonnaroo than my new digs... but i've gotten over it, somehow]

Oh man, if you're going, don't miss Andrew Bird. He's amazing.
posted by ludwig_van at 6:36 AM on June 13, 2006

The picture's from Bonnaroo a few years ago; hippies do have a sense of humor. And for what it's worth, I haven't been there but the g/f and other friends have, and it sounds like a blast. And based on the shows I've downloaded from there, the music is great. And funambulet -- there is mud...especially anywhere near the 'showers' (and everywhere else if it actually rains...)

Sensitive hippies are the worst kind.
posted by Pacheco at 11:00 AM on June 13, 2006

I've been twice in the past, so does that mean I can hippy bash? Tell you what, though, the hippies are not nearly as annoying as the tourists who are just there because of the easy to get drugs.

Second Andrew Bird. Course, I imagine he would be better to see him in a smaller venue, but takes what you can get. Not that it matters now, of course.
posted by absalom at 1:31 PM on June 13, 2006

Been twice and had a great time, but this year just isn't hippieish enough for me, so I'm skipping it in favor of the Duo/Mike/Trey/Phil tour.
