He's moving his hand over the ambient light sensor. Apparently someone's added that as an input device for virtual screen switching.

I'm guessing he lacks a tripod and so angled himself such that a camera could be placed on the table with a view of the screen for recording purposes. You can tell by the way he types that the posture is an uncomfortable and unusual one.
