CuriosityFilter: What happened to posts 53,303 through 53,307?

I was just wondering the same thing.

That might be multiple failures of the post I am trying to make that is somehow getting lost (see my bug question below).
posted by mattbucher at 11:19 AM on July 26, 2006

You guys missed that? That stinks.

Those posts will be the secret, insider-joke "member's only" insular wankposts from here on out.
posted by dios at 11:20 AM on July 26, 2006

I had a feeling it might have something to do with mattbuchers problem.
posted by bob sarabia at 11:21 AM on July 26, 2006

Please tell me you boys have better things to do with your time than to count missing threads.
posted by crunchland at 11:32 AM on July 26, 2006

crunchland, if you have the "mefi deleted posts" greasemonkey script they all show up on the front page in an easily countable column.
posted by octothorpe at 11:36 AM on July 26, 2006

53,309 through 53,511 are AWOL also.
posted by yeti at 11:38 AM on July 26, 2006

This is a 200-thread count post.

I suspect the cabal.
posted by adamvasco at 11:43 AM on July 26, 2006

Opps. I meant 53,309 through 53,311.
posted by yeti at 11:54 AM on July 26, 2006

That sounds like one greasemonky script no one needs.
posted by crunchland at 12:00 PM on July 26, 2006

Yes crunchland, you're too cool for school, we all know already.

OMG WTF MISSING THREADS CALL TEH FBI1!!!1
posted by eyeballkid at 12:35 PM on July 26, 2006

I'm holding one of them hostage. There'd better be a flameout pretty soon, or none of you will ever see quonsar's funniest comment EVAR.

The threads you are looking for do not exist at the moment.

Literally nothing to see here, move along...

These are not the threads you are looking for.

octothorpe writes "if you have the 'mefi deleted posts' greasemonkey script they all show up on the front page in an easily countable column."

MetaFilthy provides this too.

One aught not to look into things best left hidden, if one knows what is good for oneself. <ahem> Quick! Look busy, they're watching!
posted by blue_beetle at 2:04 PM on July 26, 2006

We have always been at war with posts 53,303 through 53,307.
posted by hermitosis at 2:17 PM on July 26, 2006

They were dangerous, and, thankfully, were deleted immediately.

(I forgot I would have to come to MetaTalk to let you know I was posting again)

stinky!

dios: "I forgot I would have to come to MetaTalk to let you know I was posting again."

Dude - Would you mind terribly if I called you out today? I'm horribly bored and keep falling asleep at my desk. Thanks!

Seriously, man. You know I only read the blue if it's a deleted thread or called out over here.
posted by cortex at 3:21 PM on July 26, 2006

Yeah, I forgot.

Of course, if I was thinking straight, I would have cruised over to Music to catch you there.
posted by dios at 3:31 PM on July 26, 2006

Jesus, try to stop making every goddamn thread about yourself, dios.

Just kidding. A welcome return.

quonsar's comment wasn't that funny.
posted by moss at 4:00 PM on July 26, 2006

...autoincrement fields generally only guarantee that each new row will have a higher ID than the previous rows, not necessarily that the ID will advance by exactly one. So my guess would be that something happened to make the SQL server increment the ID, but not actually add a post to the database. Mattbucher's posting problem is an obvious candidate.
posted by moss at 4:08 PM on July 26, 2006

MetaFilthy provides this too.

"...Checking for updates cannot be turned off..."

I knew there was a reason I didn't use that.
Time to check out greasemonkey, I suppose.
posted by madajb at 4:12 PM on July 26, 2006

Yeah, I don't dig MetaFilthy either.

Hi dios!

Oops, that should have included a link to the MeFi GreaseMonkey Scripts. I use MeFi Navigator, MetaFilter Asynchronous Flagging, Show Linked Comments, and MeFi No-Carets, anyone have any suggestions for good 'uns?

Bookmarklet for detecting deleted mefi threads. No need to install software. Just use this bookmark while looking at the main page.

Oh, that was a classic, all right. But it's easily topped by the brilliant comeback I'm holding for ransom in the missing thread. Somebody better flame out soon...
