I found the tags to be funny (with the punchline of "misleading tags") and very much in the spirit of the reviews linked. But just because it made me laugh doesn't make it useful to the community.

Just voicing this so that if they get deleted, blue_beetle will know it had the intended effect and all parties will be happy.

Blazecock, the "MisleadingTags" tag is icing; the Bush, iraq, israel, etc. tags are the deeper issue. And mischief, haha and all, but while there's plenty about the tag system I'd change if it was my site, you get what I mean just fine: given the imperfections in the system, there's no reason to deliberately fuck with it in ways designed to add noise to future tag searches.

I'm with you, mediareport - this is one of my pet peeves, but it is a losing battle to complain about it. People who don't value tags think that none of us should. Do what I do. Make a little voodoo effigies of the tag-abusing posters and stick pins in them.

As long as we're talkin' tags, the tag page (for example, MisleadingTags) contains the text "Please check out the list of all available tags." But shouldn't it read "Please check out the list of all tags used to date"? I mean, "all available tags" would be a list of all the "words" you could create with a standard keyboard.

No, because until they're used to tag a post, they're just words. They don't become tags until they're tagged onto a post.

absalom and scrump, you may have missed the start of the thread, when the tags were "Bush," "Iraq," Israel" and other things like that, which definitely did make those tags less useful. "NotBush," "NotIraq," etc. is marginally better because there's less of a chance the noise will show up for anyone else searching for posts about those topics.

End of story.
