Moxie loves Metafilter August 8, 2006 10:39 AM   Subscribe

In light of all The Moxie shout-outs, which I appreciate immensely, I'm instating a "Moxie loves MetaFilter" discount at the theater. All MeFites who stop by will receive a bag of our famous popcorn as long as my wife, who doesn't understand why I'm always on "that blue website," isn't around! Thanks again for the support!

Yay! I hope to take you up on that someday!

That's very cool, bjork24. I'll be up this weekend to visit my parents and attend a friend's wedding. I'll have to see if we've got time to stop by!

Never thought I'd say this, but I do miss Springfield so.

Congrats on the theater.

Has a lawyer looked at your logo, dude? Because I think the owners of the Moxie soda brand and going to cash in their returnables and sue you if they see it.

Moxie Theater logo, Moxie soda logo. They both have the same letters in a sort of boxy serif font with a white fill, but.. well.. that about covers the similarities as far as I can see.

Mayor Curley: I contacted the Moxie soda people way back before we even opened, even though the word has since passed into the lexicon and lost its copyright status. They were cool with it. Our full legal name is Moxie Cinema, FWIW.

Oh hey! Springfield. Cool, I never expect things like this to actually be close to me. Next time I head up to Bass Pro Shops I'll have to find the theater.

I second middleclasstool when I say I never thought I'd miss Springfield. But when I tell my Brooklyn friends that my hometown is getting cooler, I always mention the Moxie. Good stuff.

as long as my wife . . . isn't around!

I've always wanted to be the Illicit Popcorn Moocher. It's like a dream come true.

Springfield may have been the site of the first ever Wild West shootout and the first ever fast-food drive-thru, and is the birthplace of cashew chicken.

Technically speaking, that's a trial offer, not a discount, right?

It's not copyright, it's trademark.

But it wouldn't matter if they *did* still have a trademark on it (and I can't imagine why they wouldn't; it's been in commercial use) -- they're in the carbonate beverage area of trade; you're not.

You only get generic protection if you're, say, Kodak. Or Xerox.

Glad to hear things are going well up there, BTW.

Some restrictions do apply.

Was that to Chasfile? Or to me?

:-)

Was that to Chasfile? Or to me?

No one in particular. From now on, when someone says something stupid, I can say, "No popcorn for __________" or maybe "-popcorn"...

perhaps not

I can't wait until Moxie expands into Kansas City. We need an indie theater with decent parking and in a better location. I'm telling you an indie theater south of the Plaza would be crazy profitable.

Oh now you do MeFi discounts after I've moved 6 hours away! I see how you are. Sigh. I miss Springpatch too.

Cool, wish I were in a position to swing by...!

I miss Springpatch too.

You are a local. Haven't heard "Springpatch" for a while.

Go Cards.

And bjork24, congrats on beating the Gillioz on getting finished. What's it now, five freaking years and they're still not done?

Shit, I remember downtown Springfield in '85 when I was a kid. Most depressing place on earth. Even back then, I remember thinking "This place is gone, a ghost town. Nobody with a brain in his head brings business down here." Now it's the most vital part of the city, IMO.

Though I'd pay cash money to see footage of that statue of Hammons being toppled like the one of Saddam in Baghdad. Just for kicks. :D

I'm shocked I haven't posted in this thread (as I spend 24/7 in downtown Springpatch).
