Daypop shows "whinnied" as the fourth most searched term today. Searching for this term produces three measly hits. What's up with "whinnied?"

It's related to "Google bombing." Since Google works on the principle (among others) that a site that is linked to by many other sites is more likely to be a better result, and so puts such linked-to sites at the top of its results, then, if you get people to use a word, name or phrase, in association with a certain URL, Google will be increasingly more likely to return that URL at the top of it's list. So you could spread the meme that Andy Pressman is a talentless hack, for example.
(Sorry for the incoherency of the post. I've been off my feed lately due to a bad case of hoof-and-mouth and having to curry favor with my professors for mid-terms, but I'm almost on the last lap of the exams, even if I am feeling a bit sulky). posted by Mo Nickels at 1:58 PM on October 29, 2001
Let's handle this with some equine-imity, people. posted by mw at 2:03 PM on October 29, 2001
Thanks, Mo. Hopefully now it's only equustion of time before this thread finally rides off into the sunset....

Now that's some good old-fashioned horse-sense. We should probably take a yea or neigh vote to continue; otherwise we'll have to pony up and think of more equine puns. posted by mrmanley at 2:23 PM on October 29, 2001
You know, I used to be into sadism, necrophilia, and bestiality, but then it got to be sort of like beating a dead horse.
it was the best i could do, but that was apparently not enough to prevent me from actually posting it, please forgive me posted by Sapphireblue at 2:37 PM on October 29, 2001

I like this thread. I usually bridle at someone's comments, but this thread got off to a good start right out of the gate. Everyone's always jockeying for the best jokes, but we really took off with flying colors this time. posted by Mo Nickels at 7:54 PM on October 29, 2001

Neigh, it's being suggested all these jokes are lame. So lame, we deserve to be shot and put out of our misery. posted by Dagobert at 10:15 AM on October 30, 2001
I think we're all just chomping at the bit for an opportunity to make jokes until we're horse.

i'm a bit saddled with work and really shouldn't draft a post to this thread, but i'll just have tell my secretariat, vis-a-vis, that i need to tack on one more thing to his todo list and there will be no cutting out early today. i hope he doesn't lunge at me.

Dam, sires! I know you're all jockeying, but I think you're parlaying it into something more sinister. There is no tote board here on Metafilter. There's no need to win, or to place yourselves above others only to show that you can be funnier. Hay, if you want to mount some campaign to prove yourself a stud, don't let the gait hit you on your way out.
This is exacta what we don't need here and I doubt that Matt would be happy to know that this is what he groomed us for. Foal yokes only breeds mutuel contempt.
