Caricatures, by definition, are graphic depictions grossly exaggerated for comedic effect. Certainly nothing to get upset about, and they can hardly be considered cruel.

I love 'em. I keep seeing them randomly interspersed in various threads, and I was never sure if they were original, or if someone just took some existing pictures and added captions to the speech bubble. Awesome stuff.

The pressure to comment is getting bigger and bigger every day. Before I even posted, I spent weeks thinking up a username. Then I scanned every front page post three times to make sure I understood the nuances of the conversation. When I finally posted, I was worried I'd get called out. Then I hoped that someone would respond. Then I prayed to be marked "favorite." Then I wished to have cortex turn my comment into a song. Now I screw my eyes shut and breath into a paper bag in hopes of having my comment illustrated.

My hair is starting to fall out in clumps and my teeth feel soft and fuzzy now.

I would be more concerned if John were actually tracking down photos of the quoted members and drawing from those, and incorporating insider knowledge of the particular user to malicious effect.

(And god help you if he decided to. I am certain he could reduce strong men to tears with his pen.)

As it is, these are silly editorial cartoons. We should be so lucky that every bit of inter-user mockery were required to evidence this much thought and effort.

I find it odd that one would take such a stand on moderation while quietly take pleasure in these crude renderings, as if that's some sort of means to an end. Enh.

...shooting bullets at buses carrying the mentally disabled...

You're the one who interpreted it in that fashion. Do you really think I was referring to it in the capacity of firearm discharge at the physically handicapped? Have you never heard sniping used in the terms of demeaning conversational shots taken at another party? Continue with your clever mockery, you little devil. You saw right through me!

I stand corrected.

I'll be sure to note that calling the mentally disabled "the short bus" is legitimate discourse. Really poor taste.

Why don't you just email me and tell me you think I'm a dumbass and you don't like what I said? Really. It's listed for a reason.

Because then we couldn't watch. And bugbread is nothing if not community minded.

No really... the images are clip-art worthy... the text is not his own.. there really is very little to appreciate.

I don't see how this kind of mockery advances the cause of encouraging courteous and thoughtful discussion of complex and controversial topics.

Well, y'know, if you want courteous and thoughtful, give it a try yourself sometime.

I've always thought of you as a cardboard cutout, cartoon character or ragged puppet, so I think the pics dovetail nicely with that mental image.

I would also support a life-sized SCDB standee or a folk-crafted plush toy ready for a weathered conservative arm to be shoved up its ass.

Cat maidens? Is this about cat maidens?

Well, Den Beste is involved, so if it's NOT about cat maidens by now, it will be shortly.

I'm starting to see a pattern here. "Really poor taste" says the guy calling the mentally disabled "the short bus". "Why don't you just email me" says the guy on the public forum instead of in an email.
