Thanks for not posting about this! November 20, 2006 1:52 PM   Subscribe

I, for one, would like to congratulate the members of the MetaFilter pseudo-community for NOT posting a "Murdoch/Fox Cancels O.J. Show and Book" NewsFilter in the one hour since it was announced and officially warn anyone considering doing something like that it will not end well.

So Fox killed the story? Did they lurk in a dark corner waiting for the perfect moment to jump out and...

Ah, too easy. Low-hanging fruit and all that.

In FOX's defence, they thought they were canceling the Arrested Development Thanksgiving Special.

I hope someone does post to the blue so I can post a comment in this thread consisting of "MeFi" with a link. Like a reverse callout. Yeah.

Ah, wendell was a little early. I agree, though. This is the a particularly telling example of newsfilter - a post to bbc news, tantamount to B-List celebrity gossip about a man who doesn't deserve to read his name in the press. Why does this deserve real estate on Metafilter?

end well is an anagram for wendell.

And "It will not" is an anagram of "nil tit owl". So the Secret message is "nil tit owl Wendell".

Wendell, why do you want us to know that you're a bird of prey with negligible mammaries?

TWILL TOWELLED INN
LILTED NEWTON WILL
TWILLED LENTIL WON
INDOLENT WILL WELT
INTONED WELL TWILL

And the Anagram Server is a lot more fun than talking about O.J.

I am amazed to see that I live in a time with technology so advanced that the callout can pre-date the actual post by nearly 20 minutes.

I can only assume wendell has a trio of albino psychics hooked up to a machine that shits pool balls with thread topics engraved on them for him to preemtively meta. If only they dropped more often.
posted by GuyZero at 3:08 PM on November 20, 2006 [3 favorites]

is this the first pre-emptive callout? does that mean we can argue about impeaching wendell?
posted by mwhybark at 3:15 PM on November 20, 2006

I refuse to believe this book ever actually existed, and I'm sure Murdoch, somehow, is making a huge profit off this hoax.

Another anagram: "This will not end well" = "Wendell will not shit."

GuyZero, Did jonmc tell you my psychics are albinos?

My next prediction: "Comedian Killed in Iraq, surprisingly NOT Borat"
And "DestroyBaghdad Procedure and other Programming Quotes" via reddit.
And "LogicalParadoxes.info" via presurfer.
And "Cranberries Are Good For You".
And, yes, I have my own blog and I wouldn't put any of this stuff there either.

mwhybark, why do you hate America MetaFilter?

Technically that shouldn't happen until 2009. Even if it is just a place-switch between Bushes at that time (yikes).

People, please bear in mind that Fox was acquitted of cancelling the OJ book before a jury of its peers and therefore it is technically incorrect to say that it killed the book. However, Fox will soon be publishing a book titled "If We Killed the OJ Book."

it began with a double homicide wrongful death

Now I know why O.J. never found the real killers! He should have been looking for the real murderers as a court already determined who the killer was by a preponderance of the evidence.

Sirs, I can but beg of you that whilst a news-posting of the forthcoming coronation of Her Majesty, Queen Victoria might seem to the uncouth mind to be within the spirit of the age, it must inevitably lead to a discussion most Boorish and Unwelcome in these genteel pages of the Royal Society of Meta-Filterers, and hence will not end well.
