I got mine today too. I have to say that it's top notch. Packaging, art, mastering and music; all 100%!

Is this a webiverse first? It's nice to participate in this kind of thing even if only as one who purchased the thing. Good work folks! I hope to have a contribution for Vol II.

Does it look real?

I got mine too. Top notch production all around. I was hoping there'd be a hidden track with "matthew chen is spamming" on it, but no such luck.

Damn me for being on the East Coast.

Does it look real?

It looks amazing interrobang. I was expecting 'nicely done', and I got professional.

I'll see it being sold on a Beijing pedestrian overpass in 5, 4, 3...

when I get it home and listen to it, it will turn out to be a John Tesh album

I got 15 copies in the mail today!

NYC folk: Come to the NYC MeFiComp meetup/release party on Sunday if you want to buy one, for the special price of ten bucks.

The whole thing looks and sounds marvelous, if I do say so myself. I hope cortex puts the cover art up on MeFiComp.com soon.

It's worth it entirely for the hidden track.

I'm honored to be included in the project. And I've already said this in an e-mail to cortex, but I'll say it here, too: I love how well the tracks flow together.

Any chance of posting the tracks that didn't make the cut for Vol. 1?

Shortfuse has informed me that I forgot to credit him in the CD liners. Which I feel absolutely terrible about. Check out the cover here. I'm really, really sorry.

Christ, there's a hidden track? I'm going to murder turtlegirl. Who also, for the record, gets significant credit for helping me reflow the tracklist.

Also, giant Oh Fuck Me apology and thanks to our own shortfuse, who designed the fantastic cover art and whose name managed to not be in the goddam CD liner notes. The CD has several minor liner errors, but that's the only glaring omission I'm aware of, and interro and I are slapping our foreheads about it right now. Bad editor!

You can read a bit about shortfuse's design on this page—I hope to do some more work on meficomp.com next week, including a better showcase of the art and the launching of an errata page to handle these goofs.

Ha, all my life I've aspired to nothing else but being linked on MeFi, and now I get *two* whole links out of... being left off the liner notes!

No biggie, errors will happen. Just teaches me to volunteer to be art director for volume 2, so I can make sure my name gets on there. ;)

Cheers everyone.

About that link to my profile... Geez, I see I've only made 1 proper post to MetaFilter in 4 years... Ahem.

Turn lemons into lemonade. Mail out a "special edition" liner notes to everyone who's already ordered, with several additional pages of shortfuse art inside. Those who haven't ordered yet can choose the "special edition" for $1 more.

Looks like my site might be down? Ugh.

BTW, MetaFilter Music Video Compilation Project, anyone? We have some songs on our hands now, after all...

Site's still up for me, shortfuse.

Just awesome. I got it, it looks and sounds real, and in one more way MeFi cheers me up while making me feel inadequate. Thanks for taking the time to put it together!

I uploaded the tracklist to the windows media CD database, but for some reason, it doesn't show up in the search function yet. Are there other services ala CDDB we should enter it in?
posted by cosmicbandito at 6:40 AM on December 1, 2006

Listened to it last night on the way to practice-- damn that's some good stuff. Lots of acoustic guitars and beautiful voices, I was smiling the whole time.

We kinda stick out a bit though, don't we? :)

I envision a series of YouTube underwear-karaoke postings...
I'll have to talk to Red about that...

Red On Strike sticks out in an extremely awesome way, yes.

I'll have to talk to Red about that...

Glee!

there other services ala CDDB we should enter it in?

Beyond my ken. I smell an AskMe in the making.

For the record there's no "hidden track" on the CD. My guess is that emelenjr is referring to the last track, which is preceded by a few seconds of silence. I'm glad folks are enjoying it! It was a pleasure to be a part of the project.
posted by turtlegirl at 8:41 AM on December 1, 2006

Aw, you're no fun. I wasn't referring to the last track, I was seeing who I could fool.
posted by emelenjr at 10:26 AM on December 1, 2006

well, in turtlegirl's defence, cortex did threaten her with murder, so she had to fess or deal with his wrath... *snicker*

There's a hidden message if you play my track backwards.
posted by It's Raining Florence Henderson at 10:58 AM on December 1, 2006

cosmicbandito: If the track info is uploaded to CDDB or whereever, the person who does it should take care not to use the MeFi nicknames of the artists involved.

I like the conceit of using MeFi nicknames on the back cover, but my one small quibble w/ the liner notes is that the actual stage/recording names of the musicians are not featured more prominently.

The more I listen to this thing, the more I want to go around randomly distributing huggles. Anyone touch-averse had better stay away from me.

I submitted the CD info to CDDB so the track list should populate when you view the disc in iTunes.

I finally got mine, and this CD really is good. I used to get the CMJ CD every month, and this has more winners than that ever did.
