This scans like an old adage, so I'm going to make it one.

Yeah, jessamyn, I think you missed the point of the post: "Buy these PS3s so we can afford more Wiis."

It was a cool single link to to a sold out sale (sold out some 13 hours before the link was posted) on a popular site (covered by NPR) mentioned in another single link FPP. You're right about that.

That was an admittedly funny new post on Woot!, but Woot! has been posted before. Therefore, no matter how funny that individual post was (and it was funny), it was still a double. If (however unlikely) www.trainsaw.com makes a hilarious post tomorrow about ninja pirates from space, then it will still be a double, despite the fact that it is a new post to that site, because that site has been posted before.

Also, Youtube is different, so don't even bring that up.

Yeah sorry Shawn. Matt's in Hawaii and I'm having a dinner party and every now and then I assume that someone is telling the truth when they link and say something is a double. I'm more inlined, after checking everything out, to go with Science!'s explanation. Funny one link woot jokes are sort of.... tired.

I was telling the truth! It is a double! My honor has been impugned! I cry foul! How dare you sit there at your fancy little librarian dinner party and mock me?! You will rue this day!

aww,...thanks jessamyn, did mean for you do all that.

and i do apologize about the one link post. I will do my best next time. honest

I prefer ND¢'s explanation. That way, we'd get no more links to cnn.com or the New York Times.

SS - one link posts are OK in general; look at crunchland's posts.

One link posts are fine, anyone who says they aren't is both pedantic & mistaken.

You can stop rueing now Jessamyn. I'm over it. I'm sorry I had to do that to you. Please enjoy the rest of the evening rue free.

It wasn't a very good post, but you are right that Woot is funny as hell.
posted by LarryC at 4:00 PM on December 22, 2006

I seem to remember the last Woot! post being canned for the simple reason that we can't link to every funny sale Woot! does. It would become Woot!filter. I may be misremembering, though.

It's like linking to the Onion. We don't do that. I don't think even Fark or digg stoop that low.

Agreed. But don't let that make you forget they are also commercial as hell.

This particular funny sale made the front page on Digg... which isn't saying much.

Don't ye be dreamin' of risin' above your station boyo. Our place is here amongst our own kind. Out here with the commenters, the trolls, the single link posters, the self-linkers, the astroturfering preachers, the youtubers and the spammers. Its all we know. You best be leavin' fancy librarian dinner parties to them that was born to it. Tis for the best boyo. Tis for the best.
