Am I going crazy, or has Ask MeFi turned a darker shade of green recently?

It appears to be a more subdued forest green, as opposed to the brighter kelly I remember. Granted, it has been a couple weeks since I've been able to check it, but I don't think I'd forget that quickly. I'm also on a different computer than I usually use, but everything else looks the way I remember it. I trudged through the few weeks of MeTa that I missed while I was unable to check in, and didn't see anything. Primarily, I want to make sure something happened to the page, and not my eyes/screen.

Different screen calibration or ambient lighting is almost certainly the culprit. Barring that, it's elaborate conspiracy theories or a sudden change in your personal optics.

A big green wash may seem more noticably different than, say, the relative tones of a higher-contrast page when changing display hardware—the relative values of a white+color theme will still seem about right, even if the actual light being produced is altogether shifted.

You forget that the number 4 has decreased in value by about 20% over the past two years. This would make AskMe a bit darker and at the same time a bit more vividly green.

Try zooming the text size up a notch, with more white text filling the screen, your brain will fool you into thinking the green background is just that bit lighter.

This was intentional.

And thanks for the numbers, cortex. I guess it is indeed just the difference between my lovingly-calibrated LCD panel and my girlfriend's laptop. Having a west-facing window at a different angle respective to the display probably doesn't help, either.

This reminds me of a story an older engineer once shared...

It seems that way back in the 1950's, men used to wear hats every day to the engineering office. Apparently, some men took great pride in their hats, and were prone to bragging about the cost and fine quality of said hats. It was generally believed that dressing well was a good way to stand out amoung the hundereds of engineers and draftsman in the firm. But one individual went too far. Not only did he buy a nicer hat than the head engineer, he continuously bragged about the cost of his unique hat to anyone who listen.

Something had to be done. A collection was taken up. Three different sizes of the fancy hat were puchased, and the size tags altered. Each day one of the hats would be secretly rotated in place of the original fancy hat. Silence would descend on the drafting floor as the man dressed to go home each night .... putting on his hat, adjusting it, taking it off, looking at ... adjusting it, putting it back on..... fussing with it... wondering if .... adjusting his hat....

But as far as I know, the hat wasn't green.
