PositiveFeedbackCalloutFilter:This question is why I love Metafilter. To me, it has all the makings of a classic AskMe. An honest query about an obscure topic, multiple knowledgeable responses, an offer to experiment, and an idea for lunch tomorrow!

I was going to post this in the thread, with the expectation that it would be deleted as noise, but thought this approach might be more constructive.

Its my first callout, so I'll try and load up on the snark next time.

Loquacious, I must point out to you that all worker bees are female. The only males in a bee colony/hive are drones. All they are good for eating honey and sex. They get kicked out in the winter to DIE.

I really liked that askme question. It simultaneously appeals to my beekeeper heritage (father's side), love of honey on bread, and scientific curiosity.

When the question began as the quintessential unessential blog entry—"I ate a sandwich, today"—I thought this was a scathingly wry callout, but you're right. I'd always wondered about the bread-texture thing, for one.

I love any thread where a comment can begin, "In the interests of science and breakfast..."

(Oh, in case you missed it, here's a recent thread in the blue that also combines science and breakfast. I actually tried the "70°C for 1 hour" thing over the weekend, and it turned out pretty well!)
