Since people are always posting about their GuFfs, BuFfs, and SO's, some of which are also MeFi users, I was wondering if there were parent-son/daughter or sibling users as well (that don't care if we know). Might make for some fun reading.

Sorry, I was poking fun at people who don't seem to have the time to type out "girlfriend" and "boyfriend". I can never help reading "GF" and "BF" that way.

Always glad to have another MeTa opportunity to talk about that! Let's see...

- my sister has seen and done far worse on Craigslist which is her current online hangout. Her reaction I'm sure would be "you think that's bad...?!"
- I accidentally sent my Dad a link to the Power of the Penis thread in Skype when I was trying to send it to mathowie during the podcast. He did the normal Dad thing and never mentioned it, I think this would be no different.
- My Mom would laugh like hell and wonder why in god's name you people insist on bringing this up every christbleeding day as if linking to a racy image you found through a prosaic naughty-word-into-Google search was in some way not just beyond the pale but beyond the internet pale.
- my stepmom would have nightmares for a week.

sorry about that, I have always been vaguely curious how families interact surrounding things transgressive, and as you are the mod on a fairly large Internet community I could see how issues of self inhibition could come into play if your family, especially parents, where part of the same community. Didn't realize the asking would touch a nerve. Feel free to ignore me in the future if such things occur again.

I must have mentioned ask.metafilter to my mom a couple times because out of the blue she asked me about getting an account. I signed her up for an account and made it a point to avoid telling her my screen name. It hasn't become an issue because she still hasn't figured out how to use ask.metafilter. It is just as well.

It would be funny if I finally post that "my mom is driving me mental how do I get her co-dependent self to back off" question on the green and she answers, not realizing that she is actually the insanity- inducing mom in the question.

jessamyn: "I just continue to not understand what the big deal about that link was, but it fascinates other people for some reason."

Let me give it a whack. (Oh, god, pun definitely not intended.) I think a large part of the appeal is the fact that it was you who posted them. Your internet persona is (to me, at least) even-keeled and not in any way controversy-stoking. In a sense, the chicken fucking pictures were even more hilarious because you presented them in a factual "here you go" sort of way. Why in the hell can't I find that thread to favorite it? The deadpan delivery and your reputation as a person who generally does not post elephant-shitting photos (for instance) were juxtaposed with the actual content, which was jarring and surprising.

To contrast, what if it had been (just a for instance) quonsar who had posted those photos? You know it would have been flagged to hell and back, and he'd have been banned for a week.

I know the feeling drezdn. My aunt got pregnant at sixteen around the time I was born and this was back in the day so my grandparents snuck her down to [town x] to have the baby and made her give it up for adoption without telling anybody, and the baby grew up in [town x], and I found out about this when I was in college, and I was all like "Dude! I have hooked up with girls from [town x]! I could have been kissing my cousin!" but then I met her and I had never seen her before, so it was cool. But then we kind of hit it off and I boned her. My aunt was not cool with that let me tell you. Anyway, what were we talking about?

jessamyn writes "I just continue to not understand what the big deal about that link was, but it fascinates other people for some reason."

Besides what Plutor said, it kind of reset some bar for me on what is acceptable. I guess I'm just too provincial.

dios writes "My wife has never heard of Metafilter, as I post at work. When I am at home and she is there, that is her time. It's best that way."

It can work the other way too. My wife often asks me when I've been up till it's time to get up if I've been Metafiltering again.

tellurian writes "Married people - jennyb and corpse, NortonDC and onlyconnect, somebody to I'm not sure who."

There is also robocop is bleeding and Banjo_and_the_Pork. Who was it that got married right after the Prince? I thought they were both members.
