Hmmm. MeFi Jobs is still that awful, blinding white color. That's probably part of why I never go there. That, and my continuing employment in a job I love. But yeah, I think that color needs to change.

On topic; I had never heard of the Grameen Foundation, but reading up about them because of this post finds me liking the cut of their jib. Full speed, Mr Gsteff!

Oh sweet. I've gotten a lot of good success stories from jobs -- people that got hired that wanted to thank me, and also from the members that hired other members saying it was great to bring in someone they "knew" from the site.

Also, just because this thread is here, I should mention the new search by location thing on the front page, below the map, works pretty well using some crazy mapping API calls to find nearby gigs.

I should mention the new search by location thing on the front page, below the map, works pretty well using some crazy mapping API calls to find nearby gigs.
Can you make it so that the results list by most recent first? My results for NY were all jumbled, datewise.

amberglow, try your search for NYC and then change the "sort by:" option to "date" on the results page, and click "search again". The default sort is proximity to the location you search for.

Hey, yeah, I'm doing an internship with Grameen working on the project described. It's a really cool place, and I strongly encourage people to apply for it. The development team is really small right now- my boss and I are currently the only full time developers. And its just about the coolest software project that I can imagine working on. The code base its kinda ugly right now, so people that have a thing for refactoring will be welcome. Feel free to contact me with any questions.

Matt, a recommendation:

Make the default search location use the preferences in the user's profile.

If they're not logged in, or don't provide a location, just default to whatever you're currently defaulting to. But if you already have coordinates, it seems trivial to make it default to your proximity.

Now watch as this comment is sucked into the MeTa aether and is promptly forgotten, until another year's time when someone comes up with the bright idea.

Struts suuuucks, dude. Stripes is where it's at. It's dead-simple to incorporate Hibernate and/or Spring if you like, it uses components like Tapestry (but simpler), layouts for reuse (much easier and more intuitive than Tiles), and it's just a single JAR with practically no dependencies. Oh yeah, and no XML configuration files. No more fucking struts-config!

It's the bee's knees!
