MARLBORO, MA meetup Bump. Because seriously, are we* doing Lazer Tag first? I'm moving some stuff into my new apartment that day an I need to know if I should budget time for LAZER TAG!

*we meaning anyone besides my roommate and myself.

Let's set a time if so! (e.g. 4:30, 5pm; I don't know how long it takes since I've never done it!)

Also, cobaltnine is offering rides to CT mefites who want to come, and Jessamyn needs a ride home afterwards in the direction of Boston.
posted by Eideteker at 10:31 AM on June 16, 2007

I'd think 4.30 would be a safe amount of time to budget for lazers, if people want to go. I will if enough other people are; back in high school I was on the (totally unrecognized by school) varsity lazer team, but I'm out of practise.

Jess, I'd totally offer you a ride if it wasn't an hour in the wrong direction. Unless you want to catch a bus from Hartford.
posted by cobaltnine at 11:09 AM on June 16, 2007

I'm pretty sure I'm getting a ride *to* the meetup with CitrusFreak12 and back up to NH from plaidrabbit (right guys?) so I'm set and plan to be there. I could go either way on lazer tag honestly.

Hmmm. Does <blink> count as HTML/Display error, offensive content, or noise? Decisions, decisions.
posted by Zed_Lopez at 11:56 AM on June 16, 2007

Because I'm a huge doofus I just put this in the wrong thread:

omg lazer tag. I'm going to do my bestest to make this. If I can show up tomorrow I'll happily give rides from/to Boston. (I know that's not super helpful, sorry)
posted by psmith at 1:19 PM on June 16, 2007

I'm strapped for cash so I don't think I'm able to do lazer tag.

Right you are jessamyn. We are good to go. You have no idea how close I came to not being able to give you a ride or go at all only minutes ago. My car has a problem all of a sudden but it's ok, I can take my mom's truck. CRISIS AVERTED! Actually we're better off because my mom's truck has working AC, unlike my car.

Woohoo! Can't wait!
posted by CitrusFreak12 at 2:53 PM on June 16, 2007

I'll be there! While I don't recognize the bar I could find the Lazer Tag in my sleep, as it's a few blocks from my old place.

I do have to work tonight/tomorrow morning (and might want to go to a show late tomorrow night), though, so if anyone could give me firm-ish times on both stages (start/stop) that would help.

CitrusFreak12: I don't drink, so I don't mind covering one other person on the Laser Zone.

CF12 -- I can go earlier if you want to also.

Great, now there's a blink tag on Metafilter FP. SEE WHAT YOU'VE DONE?
posted by Citizen Premier at 4:03 PM on June 16, 2007

You should always budget time for lazer tag. Just in case.

Whoo-hoo! Lazer tag @ 4:30, then. Halfway Cafe afterwards, at 6pm(-ish). Ryvar, psmith, cobaltnine, my roommate and myself. Anyone else who's coming, let us know so we don't start without you!
posted by Eideteker at 4:42 PM on June 16, 2007

@jessamyn: yup. we're in...not for lazer tag, but for the cafe. We'll get ya home, though.
posted by plaidrabbit at 7:15 PM on June 16, 2007

Don't you people have emergency Lazer-Tag funds? What's wrong with you? Also,

MetaFilter: we're better off because my mom's truck has working AC, unlike my car.

No lazer-tag for me (I'm replacing rotted siding on the garage tomorrow in preparation for painting - long story, don't ask) - but I will be at the Halfway Cafe by 6:30. Okay, 7:00.
posted by yhbc at 8:04 PM on June 16, 2007

Thanks Ryvar, but given the fact that it's at 4:30 I doubt I can make it. I was planning to leave my place at 4, and it'll take two hours to get there from Mr. Jessamyn's Daddy's house. I'm pretty sure we've got some things planned for father's day that I'd be missing (even more of).

Sorry.

Oh and jessamyn you wouldn't happen to have an ipod handy, would you? You could be in charge of tunes as well as navigation.

I demand a tshirt that says "jessamyn is my copilot" after this. The graphic shall, of course, be crafted from this photo.

of course I do! I'll charge it tonight.

Someone I LOATHE published a novel ten years ago set next year, in which she depicted a character toting a laser gun.Given that Lazer tag has been a common game for the last fifteen years....*snort*
posted by brujita at 9:38 PM on June 16, 2007

I have delusions of being good at laser tag because the place around here had a vulnerability in the layout that meant you could do awesomely by camping.

Still, you guys have nothing to fear from my imaginary prowess, since unless someone charitable is also coming from Western MA I don't think I'd have transport.

I don't mean to discourage anyone, but having hosted/attended several birthday parties for my daughters/their friends at LazerZone, I must inform all that it kinda smells there. Quality laser-tag, but just saying...

I'd be there in a heartbeat, 'cept said daughters and their mom are taking me out for fathers-day dinner.

"I'd be there in a heartbeat, 'cept said daughters and their mom are taking me out for fathers-day dinner."

My condolences. I hope that when I have children, they know me well enough to always involve lasers (esp. of the 'tagging' variety) in some way, shape, or form in all my father's and birthday activities.

I'm planning to show up, for the Halfway Cafe part. If anyone else who's been out of school at least as long as they were ever in it is waffling about whether to come, do!

I'm out for the laser tag, tempting though it is, but I'll see y'all around six. I've called Halfway Cafe and let 'em know we're coming, so they're going to set aside something in the back for us. I told 'em "Josh", but didn't think to mention Metafilter—but I think we'll manage it.

Woo!

OK, I think it's time to disable the blink tag.

That was a load of fun. Cobalt-9 dominated the Lazer Zone shootout, and the total crowd at the end was like 14-15 people. Many many cameras were in use so there should be a shit-ton of photos forthcoming.
posted by Ryvar at 7:14 PM on June 17, 2007

Yep, a load of fun, even though I didn't make the Lazer Tag part. It was great to meet all y'all (even though I didn't get to talk to some of you - hi, eideteker!) and even though I only took six pictures myself I just remembered I don't have a flickr account anymore, so if anyone volunteers to put them up on their own space I can email them.

BLINK TAG UBER ALLES!

I've now been to five meetups since the beginning of May! Keep 'em coming! Everyone I've met so far has been sheer awesome. There are even some among you who I hope to see more of!

(on non-preview)
yhbc: Yeah, I just barely got to your side of the table when I realized how late it was. As I pulled into the Uhaul place to return the trailer, it started pouring on me, so I take that as a sign that I left too late in the evening as it is. It's probably also a sign that I'm going to be nursing this cold for another month, since I started coughing directly I stepped into the downpour.

Funny thing is, when I got back to Northborough, it was bone-dry. Hope no one else hit torrential rains on their way home!
posted by Eideteker at 7:58 PM on June 17, 2007

It was pouring here just a minute ago, but I beat it home.

And frankly, I don't see what the big deal is about jess and cortex as administrators - they didn't do shit for the site the whole time I was there.

I'm (finally) home. Thanks to plaidrabbit/joannemerriam and CitrusFreak12 for the rides all over the place. yhbc, I'll definitely upload any pix you want to email to jessamyn at the gmail place [any photos OF THE MEETUP that is]

Tired. Drove a while. Totally worth it. Awesome to see again those who I've seen before, and to meet those of you whom I hadn't. I'm sure Joanne will make with the pictures sometime tomorrow, as I'm sure as hell too tired to do it right now.

The guy at the Hess station on Rt 20 really wanted someone to talk to. Twenty minutes later, I was on the road with a free coffee, so I ain't complaining. All I had to do was listen to stories about how his friends rip off fast food joints.

I'll upload pictures later; me and sleep need to get acquainted.

Oddly enough, one thing we all agreed upon was that it didn't smell at all.

I uploaded my (two) photos and yhbc's photos to the MeFi group. Incidentally, who is in charge of that place? It would be nice to have a URL for that group that wasn't all n00bed out.
posted by jessamyn (staff) at 7:21 AM on June 18, 2007

Good thinking jessamyn. I've done likewise, and I have a question.

What do these two photos have to do with MetaFilter?

I ask because they're in the MeFi group...
posted by CitrusFreak12 at 11:52 AM on June 18, 2007

Same question goes for the 80something photos "exlotuseater" has uploaded to the group... and the 120something photos from CosmicRay....

Unless of course I'm missing some previous context that made those pictures MeFi-related, in which case I apologize.

My photos. I also added them to the MeFi group.
