Update on SO with Aneurysm

UPDATE: My SO with the aneurysm survived brain surgery. I didn't know if this was appropriate to post here, but the askme response was so comforting. It was the middle of the night and I felt really alone. Now she's home, having survived a craniotomy, and doing great. So, it's late at night again and I'm awake and she's asleep with her giant Frankenstein scar and I wanted to say thank you.

yay lovie! i was wondering how you were both travelling.
i had little doubt that she would survive fully intact, but it's always nice to get that confirmation.

you must feel like there is an enormous weight off your shoulders. remember, you're to baby her till she's healed, then treat her like normal.

it will be really hard to think of her as her old, resilient self, but the sooner you can try and get that mindset, the more normal things will seem.

such good news... you've made my evening. really, you have.
yay for you, and yay for her. yays all round.

oooh... and the fun bit is deciding on the really amusing things you'll tell people happened to give her that fabbo scar. the metal plate from 'nam is always a good start... but i'm sure the other mefites will have some beaut suggestions.
again, yay!

Hi generic230, sending you and your beloved big cyber hugs.

I had an aneurysm/stroke last September, shared about it here. Would like to offer you support, advice and info from somebody who has been there, spent the better part of a month in and out of the neurosurgery unit, intensive care and the step down clinic with other people who had craniotomies. Aren't those Frankenstein staples awesome?! LOL

They are such nightmare looking things the only thing I could do was laugh about them. Very scary looking for an onlooker.

Important to keep hair very delicately out of the wound (why they don't shave the whole head is a mystery) and to watch for any pus in the cut area.

After having chemo for late stage cancer I got incredibly constipated, it was the straining that blew a gasket in my brin. Strain during giving birth can cause a neurological bust brain vessel, eclampsia.

No bright lights, everything extremely gentle, like a very small child, delicate, no stress, peaceful, nothing loud, no agitation.

Once I could handle light again, posting here helped me to improve my thinking, capacity to type with fewer typos. I think typing helps heal the brain, as does any activity that includes both sides of the body, like walking. Gentle walking.

I suffered a serious head injury many years ago. I display my giant Frankenstein scar from the resulting surgery with pride, particularly latterly, as my hairline beats a hasty retreat from my face.

It took me some time to get over, but I have made a full recovery, despite dire predictions at the time - the brain is one amazing thing.

It was twenty years in April. It is a long road. It is worth it.
