Much as I respect some of the participants, I can't say that produced a very interesting discussion (although I appreciated Dean Allen's remarks re the length of writing on the web and Matt's insistence on the qualitative difference between journalism and blogging); Will Forbis and Michael Goldberg seem particularly bent on self-promotion. Which is no sin, but really, the result is kinda boring. posted by BT at 3:52 PM on December 4, 2001
Ugh. Above comment -- crabby and nearly contentless -- seems in retrospect to be a textbook example of that which ought to have been previewed and abandoned. Please ignore my shallow response. posted by BT at 4:50 PM on December 4, 2001
Please note that Mathowie was the only one to quote back the question in bitesize chunks as if he were responding to email.

He was. The conversation took place over email. posted by megnut at 7:49 PM on December 4, 2001

Even more cool! Proper use of the medium (thus cool), rendered even more cool by its subtle transposition away from the inbox and into the tight fitting cords and jacket of a rigorous HTML 4.01 Transitional doctype (slinky).
You will not stop our love of matt, no matter how much you try to fight with this despicable weapon known as, reason.

ok, y'all wanna hear something really weird? i couldn't read the article at all because my employer's 'adult content filtering software' (i work at a boarding school) had blocked the website.
and why, you ask, was a roundtable discussion about online content blocked? (the morning news main site is not blocked, just this article.) well, according to the error message:
Access to the desired Web page is restricted at this time.
Reason:
The Websense category "Sex Education" is restricted.

leaving me what exactly constitutes matt's idea of 'writing' on the web. must be pretty graphic stuff, though. posted by mlang at 11:05 AM on December 5, 2001
