I didn't make this comment, but it claims I did. Database corruption?

I remember reading the comment when it was posted, but wasn't me who did it. I believe it was correctly attributed at the time, but I don't remember who the real author was.

I just realized this was from 2006, but it's marked recently with two favorites. Maybe I DID make it, but ... I dunno, something seems amiss here.

When I look through old posts I occasionally find comments that I purportedly wrote but I have no recollection of writing. That doesn't mean I didn't write them, but it can be a bit shocking sometimes.

I'm pretty sure Hotmail is to blame.

I feel like I'm missing something here.

Ok, I posted too quickly, I'm sorry. I should have taken longer to figure this out but I didn't have my coffee yet.

I thought this was attached to this recent thread about partisan politics for kids, which I knew I didn't comment in, and wouldn't have said anything about Daddy going shopping. I guess I did remember the post on some level, but I incorrectly thought I'd just read it yesterday in that thread.

Rather, it's in a tremendously older thread that I had long forgotten. It got a recent favorte, so that popped it to the top of the list and confused me. It had one from way back too, so suddenly there were two favorites on a comment I "didn't make".... I posted before I fully figured it out.

Again, my apologies. I'm a sysadmin and very sensitive to database corruption.

Coffee. I need coffee.

Of course not, Malor did. I saw him.

I've had favorites pop up on old comments recently, too, with no apparent reason (sometimes an old thread gets linked by a new one, or something). I wonder if the new /random feature isn't leading people to peruse the archives a bit more actively.

If it gets favorited, I don't care if I actually said it or not.

I have had several old comments be favorited recently. I just assumed that some of my fans are going back through my older stuff because I have sold out and totally gone corporate.

I'm glad to hear there's nothing wrong on my end, and I have to agree that I've had the same feeling before. I'll be searching for something, find an old thread in google results and be astonished to see my name in the comments, with no recollection of ever making it. Memory is funny that way.

Don't confess to error, Malor. If you can make this fly, I'll have just the excuse I need for denying some of my earlier aperçus.

My comments become less funny, less intelligent, and more inane when I go back and read them later. I think it must be database corruption.

Oh, the ol' I-D ten T error. Yeah, that happens a lot. When it happens to me, I blame scotch. Not because I drink scotch all that often, but because I'd like to remember drinking scotch often.

I have a similiar experience: I'll be reading an old thread and come across a comment I agree with exactly. I'll be thinking "I wonder who wrote this they sound like my kind of people." Oh, it's me.
