This post actually made me finally pay my $5 membership.

Let me tell you about my last visit to the Iraq, in January 2005, the abridged version:

Midnight. Cut off my hand and it hurt real bad. Big cut, too big to fix myself. No insurance, must drive self to hospital. Check in. Dirty look from security guard. Nurse fills out paperwork. It’s clear nobody gives a damn about me. Takes me to cubicle. An hour goes by. An orderly comes in and grabs some stuff out of the cabinet. Another hour goes by. Doctor sees me. Petulant, condescending little pissant. Probably likes kittens who want their milk. Grabs my finger and twists it around. I fart and beg him to stop. He laughs, smiles and tells me I’ll need some ligament work. Another hour goes by. Big fat ugly x-ray tech takes me to x-ray room. Also couldn’t give a damn about me or my posts. Didn’t bother to tell me I could sit down while the film was developing. Thirty minutes later, they finally send a pernicious self-impressed diva nurse in to cleanse the wound and give me a tetanus shot. Thirty minutes later the doctor gives me 13 stitches. Thirty minutes later a nurse jerry-rigs a cast to keep the finger from bending. Big fat orderly comes in and makes jokes about the process. Five in the morning, nurse comes in and makes me sign papers. Points me to the door. I get lost trying to get out of the place and the janitor had to escort me out. Five hours, $2000.

If I had only stayed at home, they’d have treated me better.

Much as I don't like the idea of banning anyone, I kind of agree. Rougy put up a one-link Wikipedia post to a four year old event, framed it with some agenda filter nonsense and then immediately started machine-gunning everyone who stepped in the room and didn't stop until the thread was shut down.

Other than a handful of self-links I've seen over the years, this is probably the most baldly cynical and self-serving thing I have ever seen on this site (assuming that it wasn't some sort of bizarre joke). Cortex and jess know best w/r/t how to handle it, but I think it goes well past a run of the mill flameout; it was calculated from start to finish.

Reading both of my previous comments, I would have thought that my meaning was fairly clear. If you don't care one way or the other, then why respond to my comments? My first comment was not directed to you specifically, but towards the thread in general. Are you trying to pick a fight with me?

You, and many of the other posters in this thread (not everyone), knowing full well that rougy can't respond due to a time-out, are indeed cowards, as he accurately called you. I have no problem with the mutual exchange within the original thread, but trying to humiliate him with regards to his poetry and other profiles on other sites, especially knowing he can't respond, is repugnant. And if I'm understanding miss lynster's comment correctly (if I'm not, please forgive my ignorance) and she is allying herself to you and the purpose of this thread, she is even worse. Some of you should be ashamed of yourself.

My first comment was not directed to you specifically, but towards the thread in general. Are you trying to pick a fight with me?

Your first comment was directed at "you all", and as a part of that "all", I responded with an honest answer. I think rougy should've apologized by now, and that would've made me feel better about the whole sordid little fiasco. That's all. Then I responded to your second comment, which was directed at me personally, and from the sarcastic and mocking tone of that comment, it's clear you were the one doing the fight picking. I have no interest or intention in picking a fight with you. And in fact, I really don't care one way or the other what you think. I answered you because of your mocking tone: my tendency is to defend myself when being attacked. But you shouldn't interpret the fact that I answered as an indication that I have any interest, one way or another, in how you feel about this matter or the part I've played in it. Understand?

Otherwise, what Alvy said.

I think rougy should've apologized by now

Maybe he should have, but that's not the point. And much of went on here happened before his time-out ended. Which brings me to my point: This thread reminds me of a street brawl where some loud-mouth gets punched on the side of his head and falls to the ground, knocked out cold. A crowd gathers around and they all join in, kicking him...and laughing about it.

My first comment was a subtle, gentle remark, expressing my disapproval of such behavior, a reminder to whomever it applies to, that they are typically classier than that. It is not a cross I'm carrying, as Alvy Ampersand describes it, but a belief in normal, everyday decency which, as I see it, was abandoned in this thread.

flapjax at midnite, I'm sorry you were offended by my little comment which was not directed at you personally, but if the shoe fits...etc. I did notice that your replies though are somewhat insulting to me in that the essence of them is that you don't care what I think or feel or say (implying worthlessness). You keep saying that. Do I understand? Yes, I do.

sluglicker, you quoted me. Whaddaya mean it wasn't directed at me? You're saying you just pick random quotes to start off your comments? The response you make immediately following someone you've quoted is not directed at the person you quoted? I'm not buying it.

And let's not forget that "normal everyday decency" was abandoned very early on in the first thread, when rougy started hurling insults and epithets around at virtually everybody. So, whatever... you don't think the guy needs to apologize for that? Fine. You don't think the guy was being a total prick? Fine. I disagree.

This is getting old, though. I really have no particular beef with you. But this has gone into flogging the dead horse territory now, and I think I'm done with it.

But this has gone into flogging the dead horse territory now

Goddammit! I was so hoping we could have a freakout in a thread about a freakout! Hell.

Me too.
(Sorry, aramaic.)
