A few things (inside).

I'm using Opera 6.0 on Win95.

Front page of MetaFilter. Red oval around the text above the graphic (reads

1. Is the text in the red oval, above the normal graphic, supposed to be there?
2. Is the padding highlighted by the green ovals supposed to be there?
3. Please ignore the blue oval. That is my doing (minimum font size).

Also: Although it's nice to have the flexibility of MetaFilter's customization, would it cut down on server load if you were to move the full customization options to an "advanced" page? You could then offer a choice of face (I don't know how many or which ones; is there a way for you to see what people are using now?) and size (big, medium, small; have the smaller type being a step smaller than the normal selected). The point being you could offer 3 times X style sheets, where X is the number of typeface choices. (I think someone said the server generates each page on the fly.) And if someone wants to use 96pt Comic Sans, they still can.

While I'm at it: There's a bug in the style stripping code. It just leaves the value floating in the tag.

Also, I apologise for the lack of width and height attributes. I put them in the style attribute. Bad habit. Sorry.

So <img src="blah.jpeg" style="border:1px solid #000"> becomes <img src="blah.jpeg" border 1px solid #000>

I can only test the site personally on so many platforms. For what it's worth, this is what I see in Opera 6.0 on windows XP. It's almost perfect on my end.

I don't know why you are getting the layouts you are seeing. Why is the title tag showing up on the page? Are you running Opera 6 final or one of the betas?

opera 6.0 on ME... perfect over here, as well.

Opera 6 on Win 98 (damn the upgrades!), looks good.

Final version, IDing as Opera, installed in a new directory. No other site has this problem, including any other page on MetaFilter or MetaTalk. Only the front page.

BTW: Everything is normal now. Crazy. Sorry. Must've been an odd bug thing.

Uh. I just reloaded again (to make sure), and this time the title tag showed up and the padding was messed up. ...After viewing source, it's no different. I do not know what's going on.

The contents of the title tag aren't put in the title bar; only rendered on the page. If I "Refresh Display," it always fixes itself. Screenshot:

At this point, I'm sure it's an Opera bug; although it's only happened here (and I still haven't figured out why).

(Sorry. The last screenshot was taken when the page was loading.)

FYI: It only happens if I download the page from MetaFilter. If I save the page and load it from my HD, it works fine.

This happens to me when I squeeze the window down. Win2k/IE6

Not really a bug if everyone keeps the window maximized.

Working fine on Opera 6 Win2K.

However, I can get it to do something similar if I place the computer in a North/South orientation, sprinkle it with magic herbs, turn the TV volume all the way up, dope slap the monitor many times, and drink heavily.

Is anyone else seeing that? How soon can that be fixed?

y6: if you keep drinking heavily for a while longer, it seems to fix the problem.
