Anyone up for a Dallas meetup on February 16th at Texas Caribbean Food? (google map). Afterwards, if anyone that attends is interested, MeFite item is DJing at Night of the Loving Dead at Absinthe Lounge, right next door to TxCbbnFd. Caveat: the event next door has a $5 cover and is 21+. However, anyone that can't make it or has other plans is more than welcome to join for dinner. Costumes are optional, but encouraged. If anyone comes dressed as Zombie mathowie, cortex, or jessamyn, I'll personally buy their dinner. So long as it's done well.

Just thinking last night when the next Big "D" meet-up happens, if I'll have ample time prior to the date for arranging around my schedule; meaning, I may not be able to attend due to work. Sounds like a fun event all around too.

We are making every effort to record all the musical sets from that night, which will be experimental, sample-heavy, voodoo-influenced and creepily Caribbean.

I suppose I should pop in here, seeing as this is an event I'm involved with and my name was graciously dropped by Ufez in the post. This event would be a perfect placement in the talked-about MeFi Gigs, but seeing as that subsite doesn't yet exist I thank Mr. Jones for deeming it meetup-worthy.

The food at TCF is excellent and very reasonably priced, and if you arrive at the joint in zombie gear you get 15% off your order. The ladies that run it are awesome - they plan on dressing for the occasion as well and are excited for our party. One of the owners is celebrating her birthday that night, so we've decided to bake her a cake and deliver it via an army of zombies. I can't imagine that it will be an easily forgettable experience.

As for the party, this is very much not your typical bar DJ night out. Our organization holds in its ranks a key group of seasoned and professional event planners - folks that've been throwing oddball & bizarre shindigs in Dallas for years - and we've been planning this for a couple of months now. We're gonna do our best to transform the already great Absinthe Lounge into a different creature for the Night of the Loving Dead, a Valentine's Day haunted house.

No one person in our group (the Reality Abatement Bureau) is making a dime profit off of this. The $5 door price goes towards expenses and future events that we'll be holding.

I'm playing the earliest slot at 8:00 and then again in the free for all DJ battle we're holding from 1 till 2. To answer flapjax's question/statement, I'll be playing a mix of voodoo & zombie tunes (think: Cramps, 45 Grave, 50's/60's novelty records) along with one or two extended pieces that I'm composing specifically for the night (in the vein of Coil, Throbbing Gristle, Faust - but with the zombie theme worked in somewhere). I'll probably also throw in a couple of new HI-NRG Madonna remixes just to please the crowd. Kidding. The kicker, for me at least, is that I finally get to do a set dressed like a zombie, a long held secret desire of mine. Not kidding. The other fellas playing are all interesting and a lot of fun to listen to. It'll be an eclectic mix on a similar theme.

I certainly hope to see you all, grandsham and LynNever. It'd be nice to have fresh braaaains, erm, blood at a Dallas meetup. Since item's set starts at 8, should we shoot for somewhere b/w 6 and 6:30 for dinner? I think that'll work for my SO and I.

Brittanie, check with Ufez to see if he will put you up. He is a great host.

I've paid for a table at the Jefferson Jackson Dinner which is the 16th from 7:30-9:30 pm at the Aboretum. Because I already paid for it, I kind of need to go and hob nob with local judges. But I could swing by for a round or two afterwards before I head home. Would it be wholly inappropriate to come wherever you will be in a suit? If I go home first to change, I'll end up staying there and not make it out. So Ufez and Item, what say you? Will y'all be at the Absinthe Lounge at 10?

I will also be there all night (in fact, Item and I have to set up and clean up afterwards, so for us, it'll be a 12 hour tour).

I also am hosting a friend from Miami so it should be fairly busy/crazy around my house or else we'd offer to put you up, Brittanie.

Normally I'm pretty open to guests but with one roommate, one guest, and ritual zombification before and afterwards, we'll be busy as heck!

Just a suggestion: you guys should meet a bit later than 6:30 for dinner. The food's great, but they don't sell booze at TCF and things don't start going till 8 over at Absinthe. I won't be offended if any MeFites that show miss part or all of my set - as I said, it's primarily a DJ set and not really a live gig. The night's gonna be pretty hectic for me and I'll only be able to come by TCF for a few minutes. I will, however, have plenty of time to gab after my set. You know, if you want to talk to Zombie Item.

How 'bout meeting at TCF at 7 or 7:30? It'll give you plenty of time to eat, socialize, and then waltz on next door to catch the party.

FINALLY off work on a Saturday - if I didn't have rehearsal for my singing group that night, I'd go!

Dang it ALL.

But hey, if anyone wants to hear the fruits of our labors, my singing wenches group is performing at Four Winds Faire near Tyler, TX the first two weekends in March. You can come judge and see if it was worth me missing yet another MeFi meetup.
