Time for another Seattle Meet-Up?

I just answered an askmefi from someone who appears to live on the same block as me, so I figured we look into putting together another meetup. I know y2karl, dw, slarty bartfest and corpse in the library all seem like cool cats I'd like to share a beverage with, and probably others too. So what say you? Should we find some excuse to go outside these slowly brightening days? (Or atleast find a place with nice windows and a patio, and a good selection of tasty beverages?)

An excellent idea! April's busy for me this year, with assorted houseguests and a birthday party -- but there's a good chance I'd be able to sneak away for a beer (or coffee, or ice water, or Eggs Benedict, or whatever).

April 6, 19, and 20th don't work for me. The rest should be fine.

Now someone suggest to me a good place for drinking of beer. I have been in a bit of a rut lately. Last night after band practice we literally sat for an hour trying to come up with a place to go that we weren't totally bored with. In the end, we went to *ack* Dad Watson's.

The Pacific Inn is nice. Any night but Saturday, we would own the place. But please, get me drunk somewhere new. Makes getting home so much more of an adventure.

Um, there's the possibility that I'll be in town on the 28th for a UW iSchool information session. If a meetup happened that day, I would haul ass to make it.

For locations, we could look at taking over the Stumbling Monk, its only got a few tables, but they are chill. They do however, only serve Beer.

I realize it is a haul, but I haven't been to the 9lb hammer in ages. I am also a fan of Twilight Exit, but I have never had to park near it (I guess you could park in the safeway near it now). I've been off my game, my most recent night out has been in Bellevue.

Should we post an askmefi about dive bars in seattle? now that they have closed the bus stop and the crocodile...

I have just about every weekend and almost every weeknight free from now until June.

Hey fuzzbean, shoot me a MeFail if you'd like some graduates' perspectives on the iSchool. I've got friends, co-workers, and spouses that attended, are attending, or are teaching at the iSchool and, being a librarian, I have a deep-seated need to connect people with information.

I'd like to make the meetup, but schedules are complicated.

I had the poutine at Smith. It's not bad, but the Canadians I was with turned their nose up at it because it had sawmill gravy.

What is the deal with this town and sawmill gravy? I had a chicken fried steak at the Blue Onion Bistro that was covered in the stuff. It's CREAM GRAVY ON CFS, fools.

Oh, the matter at hand. The 29th is OK, mostly. I have M's tickets for 4/11 and 4/27. Actually, April is pretty free for me.

Schultzy's is good, though I'm not sure about space (I've only sat in the front). Big Time is pretty noisy. Honestly, I have a car and I don't drink much, so I'm pretty free to roam.

As for the iSchool, I've been there, got turned down for a job there, but honestly, the School of Public Health is far more awesome than the iSchool. Except for their website. The idiot that designed Public Health's website shouldn't be allowed near the web.

dw- as an aside, i've seen sawmill gravy and white gravy as interchangable names for the same thing (milk based gravy). Poutine is usually served with a beef broth gravy. But really, seattlite's like their sausage gravy or breakfast gravy.

Schultzy's has recently (?) acquired the next-door space, and I cannot remember what it used to be. (Not the Korean, formerly European Bakery, place; rather, the place immediately adjacent to Schultzy's.) Anyway, it's twice as big now. And still has good beer.

And wtf, white gravy on poutine? It's supposed to be brown, isn't it? I like the (pretentious? but delicious) poutine at Steelhead Diner at the market, which has brown gravy with bits of chicken in it, and Beecher's cheese curds.

That is, there are no lanes availabe from 5:30 PM until 9:00 PM on Sunday--which is also true for Monday through Thursday. I would suggest that Saturday the 29th is the ideal date for a Sunset meetup.

Oh, nevermind about reservations for lanes by the hour, they don't take them on the weekends it appears from the website.

I think the safe bet would be planning to meet in the lounge, and folks can hang out and group together to then go and grab a lane or two for those inclined to bowl, and those who don't can hang back and check out Karaoke.

Also, as a bonus incentive for the Veggies braving to join us at Mike's, I am going to see if I can get some vegan truffles (for everyone) through my connections at Cafe Flora.

Future Meetup Update- I just checked with the folks at Smarty Pants (via a covert operation called 'breakfast'), and they are down with us showing up as a big group pretty much any night except wednesday, which is Bike Night. We can give a call before we head down for them to make sure they have tables for us, but it shouldn't be a problem. If we go down when the weather is warmer, we can probably invade their entire patio area and watch the planes land at boeing field.

Saturday Meetup Update- I should my have officially certified, MeFi shirt by then, so I'll be in the lounge at sunset bowl start at 3pm next saturday, the 29th, with tasty vegan snacks for any veggie who decides to brave the adventure to Mike's Chili with us.

I am sad that stet and I had to leave so early, but we did make our 6:20 ferry and the chickens and ducks and dogs were happy to see us. Are y'all still at it? If not, why haven't you posted pictures yet?

The chili was excellent, as advertised. Would eat again.

I met a number of very smart, literate, and eclectic individuals.

For a time, I was seated next to Agent Seamalt Jones, and so was able to exchange meaningful anecdotes about "slugs", the legality of feeding parking meters, lockpicks, digital audio, conductivity of copper vs. the conductivity of verdigris, and the alarming rise in copper theft. He seemed mildly melancholy about the mobility and reach of his thumbs.

Karl brought a book on Seattle history that I also owned, thus giving me an impromptu prop to illustrate an anecdote about big boulders in my yard.

When we left Mike's Chili, we walked around the corner to see the house in this post.

I suspect that when all the construction is finished this woman's little house is going to become something of a Seattle landmark and photo opportunity.

I am sorry that I had to call it an evening so early but it was nice to see so many people. I should have guessed that getting a lane these days would be hopeless but, on the other hand, it was nice to see an article suggesting the Sunset's demise is not yet carved in stone.

It just looks like some science fiction novel cover out there now--all they need now is one of those Geisha blimps from Bladerunner.

So I have returned and got the Flickr photos uploaded. It was a great time, going from sunset bowl to mike's chili (where I got to order a stewart special grilled cheese) to Slarty's place with blasdelf and Agent Seamalt Jones. It was quite a time.

I am glad folks could make it, sorry I was down at the end of the tables with Lattiboy folks, next time I will have to circulate more. I kept wanting to talk to y2karl about how he crafts his posts so well.

Post Party shoutouts to: Lipstick Thespian, Fuzz Bean (Congrats again) and wedding wishs to Fatllama.

Tomorrow I will go through and tag the photos, and if folks want to identify themselves in the pics, because I've forgotten most everyones usernames.

Slarty- What we really all want to know is: were you forced to sleep on the couch? How are you feeling T+ 20 hours since your feat of gastro-intestinal fortitude.

I think we might need to do a tour of georgetown. Georgetown Brewery (fine makers of Manny's Pale Ale) offer tours the last monday evening of every month. Also, Georgetown Liquor Company serves fine tasty vegan and veggie treats, and Smarty Pants has some of the best high caloric foodstuffs in town. (speaking of which, I need to get to the gym tonight).
