There seems to be a discrepancy between the counts on profile pages and the ones from the post. Did you leave out the AskMe tags from the profile counting thing?

I just came to point out the same thing- I can't imagine it's the AskMe tags that were left out, though, because I think I primarily did AskMeta posts.

We explained it over at the thank you thread. If people tagged and reloaded/retagged a post, we'd count it twice which was maybe overcounting which was the orignal number. The number on the profile pages is more correct. We weren't really planning to be counting this stuff when we started so it's a little kludgey of a count in either case, I think.

I totally loved the Milky Way story. When I was a kid, my dad bought this huge house in Maine and we were sent outside to pick raspberries and basically, outdoors in general, to get out of my mom's hair. One time they took us sledding on a hill in a field across the street. There was a full moon and all the neighbor kids were there, and I was sliding down the hill on my saucer, and of course, you could see the Milky Way. We used to go outside all the time to look at the Milky Way. So it's hard to imagine never seeing it until you're 19.

Matt, your story sort of reminds me of kids in the inner city who, when asked where things like tomatoes come from, say, "the store!" That's all they know (until some gardening-type person starts a nice community garden in an abandoned lot).

Hey, thanks for the shout-out! I do, indeed, have a job (which has a lot of down-time), and hobbies besides MeFi.

I love compiling those monster FPP's because I feel like I get so much out of MeFi, and I admire the users so much, that I just want to give something fun back to the community.

I feel embarrassed, proud, flattered, that you like my posts. Because, many times each day, I see posts from others that make me think, "Why can't I write an FPP like that one?" Reading MeFi humbles me. MeFi delivers on the promise of television back in the 40's: it brings the world to me. You all bring the world to me.

The "vocal track only" idea is reminiscent of Suzanne Vega's "Tom's Diner" and the subsequent remix free-for-all that ensued. (That was 20 years ago! What???)
