Let's welcome Admiral Haddock to Boston!

I thought I'd kick off the planning process since it seems like there's a lot of interest in another meetup. What's convenient for people? Somewhere in Harvard Square, maybe... John Harvard's?

I avoided the ballyhoo that was the last meetup, so I'm up for seeing folks this time around. Like Plutor I'd rather do something than, uh, talk metafilter. So +1 vote for trivia or bowling or something.

So I get the feeling next week is probably out for most people. What about the week of the 26th? There are a couple places around Harvard St. in Allston that do trivia if it's not too inconvenient for people to get there.

I too endorse the bar trivia idea. Discourse Marker and I are former Jeopardy contestants, so it's sort of like we're ringers. (I hope we don't have to do urine testing, though, because right now, I would not pass. Although I guess testing positive for alcohol would be a qualification, not a disqualification.) Any place in Harvard Square / on the red line would be fine.

I can't make that day in particular. But I think you should keep the date and time, and make your team name something like Plutor Memorial Pancake Slippers. Or, you know, MetaFilter. Whatever you want.

If quite a few people do plan to show up, you may need to get to Tommy Doyle's even earlier than 7 to get tables. I've been there for trivia and it gets completely full well before 7:30, and it's especially hard to fit large groups. You may want to split into smaller teams, as Stump trivia disqualifies you from winning if there are more than six people on a team.

I don't think I can make it, but I'd love to do this if it ever comes up again. (I am also a former Jeopardy contestant and frequently play trivia in Somerville.)

I was not able to join the team per se, but sat next to them and boozed quietly as they rode the wave of victory. It was a sight to behold! Considering the day jobs of the MeFi crew, I don't think anyone else had a chance. I can't wait for the next one! I'll get my photos online in the next day or so, too.

It started out a chilly evening at ~~Wrigley Field~~ Tommy Doyle's, but the MeFites arrived to provide the trivial heat. "We Are Not The Cabal" took first prize, pwning a large field of contenders. The $40 gift certificate to Tommy Doyle's was given to the "7th Player" Admiral Haddock, who soon-after belted out quite an on-key rendition of the Clash's "Train in Vain" for his first karaoke evar.

Welcome to Owah Faiah Shitty! (read in a Mayah Kevin White voice.)

And yes, it was a very loud location; still, I had a wicked good time. Nice to meet you all!

Sorry, Banjo and Robocop, no snub intended. I was gazing fixedly into the middle distance struck dumb with such terror that that moronic hack that went on before Hal would try to engage me in some fashion that it was hard for me to take any notice of my surroundings. (Note to Chris Bonno: your insistence on repeating and spelling your name 400 times had the desired effect; I will never forget your name, and I shall curse it with my dying breath.)

I went to the show mainly to accompany the Queer As Folk-addicted Discourse Marker, but I will say I thought Hal Sparks did a pretty good job.
