iamkimiam: err, you pay money for one but not the other, I believe. Both serve the basic function of getting you onto IRC, with minor differences in "advanced" functionality.
If you're on a Mac, note that colloquy is free and gets a lot of love. I personally use Snak but that is shareware.

As much as #mefi sucks, it kinda beat this young little upstart by a few years. I'm not trying to sound like a d-bag or anything, but what would be the point of another channel on the same server (or any other server) dedicated to MeatLifter? The majority of MeatLifter's elite intellects are already idling in #mefi. Deal with it, join #mefi, and stop crying.
