OMG YES on the scholarship.

Don't make it too complicated though - something where the skill level distracts you from the content and enthusiasm. I had to make a video for my KP Aarhus app, and all I had was a piece of $2 black cloth and my boyfriend's old camera (not even a proper video cam). I lost out heavily to those who had access to better technology and could make their videos look better.

So regarding the early question which cued discussions of viewing your internet history from years ago as stupid, I feel like if I ever start looking at my actions of several years ago and not feeling that I was relatively an idiot, I should examine myself to see if I am beginning to fail at life.

I do not own a bird or any other animal. I know someone who owns a tarantula and a chinchilla. I have assumed Jessamyn to be of average height (statistically best assumption), Cortex to be of average or above average height (giant donut habits and geekiness may have led to increased growth), and Mathowie to be of above average height (tall geeky dude).

Jessamyn needs to watch selected Star Trek: TNG episodes. Patrick Stewart is a fine actor, most episodes are sort of junk or inconsequential, but the occasional episode allows him to shine. Probably the best for this is The Inner Light, which involves Patrick Stewart not being Jean-Luc Picard and not being on a spaceship. I also vaguely understand the dude to be geeky enough that he could be on this site.

A recursive Metafilter post should be allowed only if it is somehow really funny.

As a graduate student, graduate students should not be allowed to apply. Find some grant, corporation, foundation, etc. to leech off of like everyone else, or if you're getting something like an MBA where you can't leech off anything you don't deserve the scholarship.

The real cool kids realize that silly internet abbreviations are not to be said out loud and say "Metafilter" and even then do not discuss that in polite company.

For another example, the only reason saying "LOL" out loud is not one of the biggest failures imaginable is that saying "LOLOLOLOLOLOL" out loud is even worse. I have heard both.

Basically, yeah. My nick is hyperbole and exagerration for real life and the result of a random joke but I certainly feel qualified to judge what is cool and not cool on the internet since one may properly and easily assume a "not cool" bias.

MetaFilter: Kinda goofball, but funny.

I told you I had a friend with a question. I played this for Patrick and he was quite amused by your answers. I had to explain some of the techier aspects (WHOIS, TCP/IP), but he chuckled quite resoundingly at the image of a fist emerging from a telephone line/fiber optic cable. I'd say your answer was a success!

I realized half-way through that I wouldn't get another take. A shame, because I'm sure I could've done better. CP's not one of my "stable" of voices, but I've been working on it lately (thanks to prodding by the guys at work). Clearly not ready for prime time.

I'd like to just mention that I find the podcast volume level quite low. I listen almost exclusively to podcasts during my daily commute but do sometimes listen to music. Music and other podcast volume levels have not been a problem on my player, but the MetaFilter podcast always gets drowned out by the screech of the train wheels, especially in a tunnel. Is it just me?
I can adjust the volume levels for myself using pre-processing software but I'd prefer not to go through this extra step. (If I am the only person experiencing this, SO BE IT).
Otherwise, any chance of upping the output volume and everyone else turning their playback volume down to accommodate me (Assuming, I am the only person experiencing this, SO BE IT)?

tellurian: the volume just seems all over the shop to me, from barely audible to eardrum shattering. I think I've adjusted the volume ten times now, and I'm only about fifteen minutes in.

Also, should I ever make a film with a voiceover, I will have to employ flapjax at midnite as narrator.
