We have MyAsk. Why not MyMeta? How about a tab that filters by tags. Example: ignore anything with linux or politics. Keep anything with maps or art.

Well, when I suggested MyAsk, my main reason for proposing it was the volume of posts on Ask MeFi, i.e. giving people a way, if they wanted it, to quickly zoom in subjects that interested them or that they had particular knowledge of. I think MeTa has, what, a max of five or six a day? Does that really need filtering?

I'm guessing the reasoning for doing it on AskMe is so that people can pick and chose categories they can actually help with, not just those that interest them. In that instance, being able to focus on questions you have knowledge about is quite helpful.

Filtering out MetaFilter itself is a whole different ballgame and could lead to splintering of the site for no real benefit of the site (as opposed to a specific user).

There is sort of already a mechanism for this where you can read MeFi via tags, so you can pick the ones you want and follow only those threads on MetaFilter. Otherwise yeah I think the splintering argument is a decent one.

I'd like to see "related posts" on the blue - having gotten used to it in AskMe, I keep scrolling down past the post box expecting to see what else has been posted in the past on whatever topic.

Yeah, as Happy Dave says, we made MyAsk as a way to cut down on the volume of posts to Ask MeFi and find just the stuff you like. MeFi can get overwhelming at times if you check only a couple times a week, but it has nowhere near the volume of posts/day that Ask MeFi does, so we never thought to build it for MeFi.

Adding to what Matt said, there's also a difference in site utility between the green and the blue: MyAsk may help askers get answers, which is a little more of a payoff in what-AskMe-does terms than really exists in any analagous form for Mefi proper.

What you were asking for—user-submitted related threads rather than computer-picked related threads—is not really the same thing. Although you slightly alluded to the latter, that's not what people were responding to.

Yeah, the difference is that adding related posts based on tags would be automatic, so it wouldn't get into all of that judgment call/adding more noise to the posting form/etc stuff that was mentioned in that thread.

On the other hand, I think Related Questions uses tags + categories, and there are no categories on the blue, so it might not work as well. Plus, post titles are generally a bit less... informative on the blue, so there might be less motivation to click through. (Because what I'm really looking for is another way for Metafilter to suck more hours from my life.)
