How It Ends

Denver DeVotchKa Meetup?!

Come taste the theramins! This Wednesday night, the Denver Cruise says goodbye to the cruising season with the last rolling pubcrawl of summer.

Rumour has it that local Denver band DeVotchKa will be making a special guest appearance at the Circle Of Death!

Pretty much any human-powered vehicle is appropriate for the cruise; this year we've accommodated pedicabs, trikes, unicycles, high-wheelers, skateboards, kinetic art, a rolling pedal-powered pub, and, naturally, bicycles of every description. Theme for 24th September is "Black and White". While it's more fun if you dress the part, no one will ostracise if you don't.

The Denver Cruise irregulars commence precipitating at the Ginn Mill at 7PM on Wednesday. If or when you show up, look for a small white girl on a big black downhill bike (the theme, you know). I'll get there a bit early and stake out a spot on the front patio.

All you need to bring is a bike and beer money for the bars (lights and a lock are pure common sense and highly recommended). Feel free to drop a line to the email link on my profile if you have questions.

I'm nowhere near Denver and won't be attending, but humor me ... just before DeVotchKa comes on stage, listen for Rossini's "The Thieving Magpie" and tell me if it does indeed show up.

It was on as house music just before they came on when I saw them in St. Louis and I recalled that "The Thieving Magpie" was playing in A Clockwork Orange in the scene where Alex and his droogs take on Billy Boy (and his droogs). Alex narrates that they were "getting ready to perform a little of the old in-out, in-out on a weepy young devotchka they had there."

LFR this is a fine idea. I suspect I won't make it down there but I will be with you in spirit--I have floated the idea by my neighbors and I'll see if they rally. LFR and Nails I would love to do another meetup.

dearest fieldtrip, I very much wish you could come tomorrow night. But if not, yes, please! I should like another meetup, and soon! The Hornet was fantastic, or since the Rockies appear to be (thankfully) winding down perhaps we could revert to the Falling Rock.

NailsTheCat, I shall simply have to perfect my teleporter. I've very nearly got it... tho there appears to be a very minor quibble with the whole reassembly process, and you know how people will insist on grousing when bits get left off.
