Groups on XBL are way inferior to the way it's handled on Windows. PC gamers can have a dedicated server that you just hop on and play; on XBL, you have to go out of your way to hook up with friends who happen to be online at that moment.

Buy a 42" 1080i LCD TV with HDMI and put it on your desk. It's like gaming in IMAX if you've got the videocard to drive it.

honestly, i added a bunch of names from Xbl to my friends list back when it first came up, and virtually none of them are ever on anymore. someone even made a "mefifriends" (I think that's the name) account specifically just so that people could friend it and then people would have a resource to get all the other mefi gamertags. but neither that, nor almost anyone on there plays anything anymore, apparently. i still get random gamertags that I don't recognize popping up sometimes, and I think those might be mefites who have changed their gamertag name, but i'm not sure.

If you've done a year in an mmorpg, you'll have picked up that instinctual professionalism regarding gaming that comes with working two desk jobs.

We do play non-TF2 games on MeFight, it's just rarer. People had group orgasms (and "Damnit I had higher hopes" discussions) about Spore; it seems L4D (left 4 dead) will be popular on the server; we have semi-regular Natural Selection (half-life mod) nights.

As for skill: Mefightclub actually taught me how to play TF2. Not kidding. I had been playing TF2 for two days when I joined, and TF2 was my first try at online FPSes. It was a really great place to learn.

I know for a fact that MeFight Club has generated at least $25 for mathowie from random internet people playing on our servers with us, finding out what an awesome group we are, and coming to MeFi to sign up in order to get into the group and onto our private server*.

That's how awesome we are.

And me? I'm that guy that would always post a bunch of negative shit in /. threads about Steam, and how software activation is immoral, and how it's just one more step down the path to authoritarian cyber-nanny state, and how Valve were all a bunch of morans with no security mindset, and how Gabe Newell was a fuck-up, and how I was voting with my dollars, and how anyone who bought Steam was a Good German and deserved what they got when the government agents kicked in their door.

But I got over all that in order to join MeFight Club**.

That's how great a group it is.

I've given a lot of thought about allowing for the formation of another MeFight Club dedicated to console games, but my conclusion is that it just wouldn't be the same, and wouldn't be in keeping with our beliefs.

The Club believes that it should serve as a means to allow individuals to develop both the mind and the body. This way, we will not have any members ascribing such characteristics as "The Body" or "The Mind" to themselves. Rumor has it that in its early years, the Club Elders had to kick out Jesse Ventura for failing to live up to its standards. That, and he wasn't sticking to the diet plan which was laid out for him.

We also believe that a healthy mind promotes a healthy body, and vice-versa. It's why we play Team Fortress 2. There's a lot of thinking involved when it comes to who should shoot whom, when, and with which weapon. Those times you see some of us shoot everything in sight are catchup sessions where we're "Shooting," or developing our flexor digitorum shootialis muscles and tendons for upcoming demonstrations and competitions (and not, as some believe, because of paranoia, or psychosis, or homocidal ideations).

We believe that a healthy body must be supplemented with regular, scheduled, dietary intake of diet caffeineated beverages and brownies. The brain burns glucose for energy, and recent research has shown that the only-recently-discovered sugar bructose, when combined with the fats in brownie mix, is the sugar most readily processed by the brains. The fats promote the development of more brain tissue. Avoidance of hypertrophied portions of the brain, particularly the lateral lobes of the pituitary (which secrete shootocin), is achieved by balancing out thought patterns with scheduled cease-fires and discussions of literature, art, and Zooey Deschanel.

With these in mind, it should start to become apparent that console gaming cannot fit into the Club's schema. Playing console games requires the constant use of both hands in a flexed position. This works out only half the muscles needed for superior cyberathleticism, and puts constraints on necessary concomitant actions: one cannot hold a brownie at the same time with one hand while shooting with the other. One cannot also hold one's hand up in the air to punctuate an oration on the literary changes during the transition of Victorian and Edwardian writing styles.

However, there is some work being done by a new group of gamers who are looking to go beyond current procyberathletic regimens. Perhaps you should contact them? I know that there's at least one study looking into the use of appendages other than the arm for brownie delivery and consumption. The Club, at the moment, is dealing with other issues is not currently interested in feeding itself with their feet. But I encourage you to form your own group for console gamers. Who knows? Perhaps we can have a showdown someday to see who is the more perfect cyberolympian.

Uh, I think I signed up at mefight, but I wasn't sure if (PROUD CONSOLE GAMER/owner of an older laptop that can barely play GTA san andreas) anyone out there uses their mighty PS3 to play online. It's mighty, I tell you. And essentially free, with purchase of large tv. And I'm finding Call of Duty 4 to be giggles of fun. I'd be Ghidorah5000 (someone beat me to it) on the PS3 thing.
