Unfortunately, nobody brought a camera. However, suffice it to say tht absolutely noone looked like I thoght they would, however a good time was had by all.
And ladies, my buddy Rob arrived about 10 minutes after you left and was disappointed by the lack of babeage in the room. However, me joe and nick had a good time on the F-train exchaging stories of drunken grandeur.

Recap, to the best of my memory:

Had a nice talk with goneill, mlang and swift.

UncleFes actually took the subway. Palegirl lied to me and I believed her (she's a choreoanimator...). It was her friend with the bruise, but I was looking the other way(!).

It turns out that nicwolff works not just in the same building as IOP (my wife's company, where I also work occasionally), but on the same floor.

ParisParamus arrived late and exhausted, but must be wonderful to talk to when he's fully awake.

MiguelCardoso called from Portugal and had better luck with the connection than realjanetkagan who called from somewhere in New York.

Also briefly talked with BT and mdn who were at the other end of the table.

And what can I possibly say about jonmc that hasn't already been said? Also got to meet his friend Rob the EMT, the two of them told stories that probably grayed my hair.

Adding to joemaller's overview: A small group, but a good time. jonmc, swift, mlang and goneil got things going early; after some trouble getting the attention of the single, overworked waiter we settled in to the fascinating stories of screen names. I recall that palegirl summed up things on her arrival with "Greetings, Nerds!" When UncleFes appeared, the fact that he's not a bald, giggling degenerate took some getting used to.

The Transatlantic Call of Miguel seemed so bloody improbable and yet inevitable: everyone cheered! The question "does MiguelCardoso sleep?" must now be asked, and some kind of U.N. Task Force be put to work getting to the bottom of this.

As has been noted on the original thread, the French-subtitled Beach Blanket Bingo playing behind us made everything appropriately surreal and celebratory.

Great to meet everyone -- esp. those who made it in from outside the city -- and sorry I didn't get to talk to some more. Thanks for getting the ball rolling, Paris.

Paris, I'm about your age, but when I start complaining about cute young programmers — hell, men or women — showing off their giant ass-bruises is the day I stop going to parties at all! If I had that bruise I'd have drawn a little face on it and sat backward all night.

But thanks for finding Blah Blah — phone manners notwithstanding, it's a great little place and was perfect for the group hang — I wish it were in my neighborhood!

Hey, maybe I'll try to organize a Manhattan MeFiesta in the spring — how would people feel about having it at my house instead of a bar? There'd be no smoking, but there'd be a cat, so there might still be allergies.

Oh, and to contribute to the recap: mlang and goneill didn't make out (much) but did fall asleep in or near each other's arms. You can make BT's day by complimenting his taste in eyewear. Someone had told UncleFes that it was a costume party, and he came dressed as a grown-up. Palegirl is no paler than the rest of us, and almost surprisingly not dead; she and her bruised lurker friend were hypnotized by the flowing ooze but snapped out of it and gave a stirring rendition of the big-screen amine subtitles.

I had a lovely time too - apologies for depleting the "babeage" resources by leaving too early, but I was tired (& broke).

mlang's post is fabulous (and the Department of Poetic Considerations confirms that his current license is in fact valid).

I was surprised everyone thought I was a boy because I've been referred to in more than one thread with the correct pronoun and even by my first name - which I noticed because I was used to people making mistakes about that when I posted at Salon's table talk with the same user name. Our group was a little heavy on the Y chromosomes but I guess that's not so shocking, considering, you know, it's metafilter.

Hey, what a party!

I'd been off MeTa for 48 hours now and this morning, when I woke up - presto! So much to read in one go! I'm usually a one-new-comment reader so this was amazing. I feel gorged.

Thanks all for talking to me over the phone. For everyone else's information, I talked to ParisParamus, mlang, Uncle Fes, BT and JonMc. All had sexy voices, very fast and friendly, soft-spoken but excited - and I thought Internet people lacked communication skills. Another myth bits the dust.

It was a thrill. The Blah Blah sounded great too. Realjanetkagan: you should consider moving to Lisbon if you want to get through next time!

And the descriptions of the party just show that no, you didn't have to be there. Hell, I feel I'm still there myself..
