Nothing, sorry, not ringing any bells. Was it a movie? She'd heard of movies.

If so, it's also pretty poor style to bury your main point in the footnote of the 42nd bullet-point in a 44-point list.

The 15 of March may be historical, but the "beware the Ides of March" comes from Shakespeare's Julius Caesar.

    Act I, Scene II

    Soothsayer
    Beware the ides of March.

    CAESAR
    What man is that?

    BRUTUS
A soothsayer bids you beware the ides of March.

    CAESAR
Set him before me; let me see his face.

    CASSIUS
Fellow, come from the throng; look upon Caesar.

    CAESAR
What say'st thou to me now? speak once again.

    Soothsayer
    Beware the ides of March.

    CAESAR

I'm guessing there's nothing that EVERYBODY knows, depending on how you define "everybody."

The closest would be something like, "that they're hungry (when they ARE hungry)." But if you count people in comas, maybe even that's not true (though I'm not sure people in comas get hungry -- though THAT depends on how you define hungry).

But I wonder what the most-known bit of common knowledge is in the world. Or in Western, first-world countries. Or in the US.

What's better known in the US, the name of the president or the name of the currently most famous pop star?

What's the best-known event in history? The best-known scientific fact? The best-known song ("Happy Birthday To You"?)? The best-known quotation? The best-known story?

How does the guy who drives the snowplow get to work?

The county let my neighbor keep it at his house. It wasn't as convenient as you'd think though, because my house was on his return route. So our street was The Last To Be Plowed, every time it snowed, at least in his assigned area (which was often in central minnesota).

The Leonard Cohenology in this post is very incomplete. You've neglected to note:

    •that the war is over
    •the fight was fixed
    •that the boat is leaking
    •that you love me baby
    •that you've been faithful
    •you've been discreet
    •that its now or never
    •that its me or you
    •that you'll live forever
    •the deal is rotten
    •that the plague is coming
    •that its moving fast
•that the naked man and woman are just a shining artifact of the past
    •the scene is dead
    •that you're in trouble
    •what you've been through
    •its coming apart
