Are Bre and Jason related? March 4, 2009 6:47 AM   Subscribe

Is "jazon," the poster of this post about Bre Pettis, related to Bre? Jazon gives his name as "Jason Pettis" in his profile.

If so, it should have been said up front. If not, perhaps the coincidence should have been explained.

I have looked through jazon's 109 family photos and I don't see Bre in them. Bre, on the other hand, hads nothing on Flickr with the "family" tag and appears to have been hatched from an egg.

The only connection I could find on Google is that they both follow each other on Twitter.

Wow, and I thought I was being creepy and personal when I went through 3 or 4 photos and blog entries looking for a link to Bre. (Of course, he posted them online, so it's not really creepy and personal. I just felt weird.)

And you are right about that egg thing. His "bio" includes only the last few years. Pod person?

I think we should set some ground rules: Posting about your kids is cute but not kosher. Posts about brothers or sisters, even in-laws, are a total no-go. Kissing cousins, flip a coin. Posts of dirty uncles named Ernie are encouraged.

I have nothing on my flickr page except for work-ups from that wikipedian album cover meme.

Is either of them related to Jerome "the Bus" Pettis? Oh, wait, the football player is actuallyBettis. So, Pettis would be, "the Pus".

Also of note: this page which currently is the only occurrence Googly has of the phrase "Jazon Bre". That's some crazy shit, there.

If you call someone out and your suspicions are well-founded, you should get an animated, dripping ice cube icon next to your username. If we can put stars next to user accounts, it should be easy enough to add ice cubes.

I dropped him a line as a heads-up about this thread. Not a bad idea to do that if (a) you're posting a metatalk about someone and (b) they have any kind of contact info. With mefimail, (b) is kind of a gimme at this point, too.

Out of curiosity, if you are doing research into your family tree and find out that your great great aunt was some kind of crazy 19th century celebrity and there's some genuinely interesting content there, is a post about them kosher?

man I wish I had one of those

I'd go with "researching yellow soda" and try and make a play on "doing the dew while you do your due diligence" or something. If I were in your shoes.

Hi Gang! My first Metatalk Callout! Thanks for letting me know, cortex!

Bre and I aren't related. We've never met and I bet we don't have any relatives in common*.

I guess I should have been more clear about our non-relationship in the post. Now I know! Sorry for the confusion.

*I'm also not related to B. J. Pettis, Pierce Pettis, Madison Pettis, Gary Pettis, nor have I ever been to Pettis County, Missouri

I've done a post about a long-dead distant relative's murder, and I didn't even think about it perhaps being poor form. I guess I should have mentioned it at the time.

I'm on board as long as a suitable branding can be figured out when someone is wrong. Like say all their comments are reduced with six nested small tags.

No worries. I just drove over to jazon's place and sifted through his garbage. I can report that he has a subscription to "Jugs", and that he seems to love Campbell's chunky style soup, but I saw no connection to Bre.

Like a Web 2.0 version of anthropologist Margaret Mead, I once witnessed a Metafilter blood oath ritual, where users danced around the fire, cut their palms and joined hands to signify kinship.

This ritual ended, of course, with the advent of MeFi Projects, where you can post another MeFite's work to the front page. You couldn't do that back then, of course, not without breaking the solemn vow of abstinence.

Thanks, Cortex. I'm afraid I almost always forget that mefimail is there, despite the icon in the upper right corner. The one message I have there has been there unread (until now) for a month.
