Update: Currently working at a major east coast university in a library department of 4 people, which is awesome and I'm even a guru in the one section of our tiny department. Still depressed, still working on getting over my paranoia to contact the peeps at said university because they're awesome like that in order to get hooked up with some therapy. Bought a condo with the assistance of my dad a wee bit over a month ago and am loving it and am even on the board for the condo association. Currently: knitting and drinking wine as I finish rows. Life is decent, if still a bit hazy as to the future.

Of course, favorites aren't the best indicator of popularity, I think. Flagging would be a better indicator but I think those stats are available to the mods only. I daresay there would be some disparity between my most favorited post and my most flagged post.

Motherfucker, I can't even get my own shit straight. The 88 Lines thing was what I was thinking of, but the actual tied thing there is the time that IRFH put in the pile of writing work, and my brother sat through the recording work, and there was very little annotating, and, basically, I think the key thing here is that if I were going to pick a thing to be the most-favorited thing I ever did it would not be the thing that is actually the most-favorited thing I did.

And I suppose that's a sentiment that extends to a fairly broad spectrum of human experience as far as how effort and reward align, or fail to do so.

Had favorites existed in 2005, I am convinced that this post, on Cute Overload, would have garnered the most.

But as it stands, it looks like it's this MeTa comment, which cannot be reproduced here due to techno-philosophical shifts among the administrators since then. Plus, on top of that, even clicking through won't display properly in everyone's current browser of choice unless you've switched to Chrome (PC) or stuck with Safari (Mac). I think I may have reached obsolescence.

So when everyone recently was arguing about obesity, and whether people really can claim that it's due to some sort of condition, and why don't fat people just stop eating so much, and doesn't everyone know that being overweight is just asking to die? I offered my experience about the conditions that led me to gain weight, the reasons why I didn't just stop eating so much, and how I'm pretty dang healthy anyway thankyouverymuch.

Lots of people seemed to like my post, but it had almost no effect whatsoever on the argument taking place.

That sort of thing happens a lot.

I tried to explain how the new mefi.us static domain helps with performance, and somehow that got 22 favorites. Amazingly, this was nearly twice as popular as a comment being snarky about marketing departments.

As for getting this information out of the Infodump:

The Infodump is currently around 6 months old, so it would be out of date.
You'd only get the post and comment IDs, which you'd then have to look up yourself to find out what they said.
There's no way to tell who wants their most-favorited item posted in this here thread right here.

Warning: epic post ahoy! I've tried to respond to most of watercressprincess' points, insofar as I understand them...

A nerdy comment in which I go on at excruciating length about why HIV really does cause AIDS, no matter what some people would like you to think. That comment accounts for a full 1/3 of my favourites, despite my breaking the embedded links.

I disagree with that action so strongly

To be sort of a mod bummer briefly for a moment, she was not in any way banned just because she was annoying. She was banned because she had a bunch of tendencies to do things here that ran consistently counter to being a decent community member, we'd talked to her about these things repeatedly, politely, and at great length, and we never really noticed any change or attempt on her part to sort of figure things out here.

There are a lot of quirky personalities here but for the most part most of them act like this is a place they'd like to be and we get the sense that they make that decision to be here understanding how the place works. It was unclear, for a solid year, whether sixcolors understood how this place worked. Her interactions with the site were bizarre, often incredibly contentious and frequently difficult to even understand. It's possible she lives a truly strange life that often confuses her and those around her, but at some point -- a point which was after an awful lot of "let's try to make this work" from the entire mod team -- her presence here was taking up so much mod time that it was affecting our ability to do other things on the site. The fact that she was also becoming a running joke, though not part of our decision-making process, was also a pain in the ass that wasn't her fault specifically but still within the "what we had to deal with" realm.

This has only happened maybe a handful of times in the history of my working here and it's always a shame. At the same time, we're responsible to all members of the community and there aren't very many of us.

First off, those were my boots. You peed into them before putting them on. The badger, skateboard and duct tape were also mine. And damn it - that wasn't duct tape, it was my favorite black fabric gaffer's tape. That shit is expensive. And my badger was seriously annoyed that you were going to attach a bunch of giant bottle rockets to the skateboard and fire him off in some kind of drunken rocket sled experiment. It was most irregular. You didn't even install any dataloggers. What were you going to do? Interview the badger and ask him to estimate what he thought the G forces were?

I started the fire because you were claiming you were a witch, and since you were standing there naked rubbing your anointed nethers on a broomstick I figured I should be obliging and help you out. The plan failed because - big surprise - I was out of gaffer's tape with which to bind you to the stake.

You ran off waving that broomstick and wearing my boots, screaming something about the sordid, disgusting sexual habits of self-transforming machine elves. We later found you hanging upside down from a neighbor's tree like bat wearing a yellow rain slicker with honeysuckle blossoms shoved in every hole in your body. Upon morning's greetings and salutations your only reply was - and I quote - "I like my eggs runny. When's breakfast?" which is why we turned the hose on you to wash you out of the tree. That and you smashed all the eggs in your hair last night.

This is the last time I let you mix strawberry Quik into banana-chocolate Yoohoo and pour it over a bowl of Crunchberries.

Mine is an askme question: "How do I learn to be as comfortable around guys as I am around girls?"

I did want to say that since that post I have made tremendous strides in that area. I've been looking for a way to acknowledge just how wonderful and life-altering the advice I received has been for me. Since so many people favorited it maybe there are others with similar concerns and I want them to know that I was able to change my life thanks to a lot of the principles expressed in that thread. I did post a mini-update when the thread was still open but a lot has changed on a more fundamental level since then. I wanted to take the time to ackowledge all of my best answers (some of which I have only recently marked) because they really made a difference, even if it took me a while to understand them. I am sure I will still be marking best answers from that thread in the times to come because I am still changing.

1. When Trevyn said "This feeling of being scared to do something but steeling yourself and plowing through it is indeed exactly the feeling you need to start chasing," something clicked for me immediately and I haven't gone back. I now recognize that feeling regularly in my life and I have learned to embrace it. A few years ago I was an extremely fearful person. I had been diagnosed with social anxiety, agoraphobia, all manner of scary things. I was very easily startled and sought safe, comfortable spaces. I was pretty much confined to my own room, and it was still hard to fall asleep at night because I was so scared and tense all the time. While I had made a lot of progress with fear prior to the askme, I still wasn't mindful of my own strength. That advice really helped me and I still remember it on a regular basis. Thanks to "chasing that feeling" I can say that I have had a number of rewarding experiences and I am no longer afraid to be afraid.

2. Skwirl's comment about creating reality is something I had heard before but it took a long time for me to know what it meant. Changing the way I see myself and using my imagination to change my reality has helped me to change the way I feel about myself and about others.

3. Foobario was one of many who stressed the importance of being happy and the beauty that comes from happiness. This has probably been the most significant thing I could take from all of the advice. I am a joyful person now, and it shows. I am not bouncing off the walls or consumed with the pursuit of pleasure, rather, I have a comfort and confidence in the beauty of existence that I have never had before. I credit a lot of things, including medication for my bipolar, therapy, life coaching, and above all a renewed connection with my spirituality. However, I had never connected joy with beauty before. Wow, it's really true! I know I am prettier now just getting out of the shower and looking at myself in the mirror, before makeup or clothes or shoes or having my hair done. I smile a lot more now than I used to and I know that the change in my spirit has sparked changes in the way people react to me, definitely including men.

4. Okay, loiseau and thinkingwoman basically put together a how-to guide for gaining confidence in my physical expression. I wear makeup when I choose, heels, and buy clothes that make me excited to wear them. I have looked really good and received compliments and looks. Most importantly, I have felt like I could hold my head up high. And I know that I am pretty in ways conventional and not. I went through a period when I couldn't stop looking at myself in the mirror, after years of ignoring mirrors altogether. I did worry about becoming vain and I've balanced quite a bit now, but the confidence and security I feel with my physical carriage and looks has made a huge difference. I remember buying a Grecian gown because I think I'd always wanted one and feeling so dignified and strong.

I am still short, fat (a little fatter I think), and quiet. And I have been one of the prettiest girls at the ball, and I have danced with men and with women and happily by myself. I went to Atlanta to an outdoor concert and I actually got up in front of the stage and danced, having so much fun that a very dapper man came up and danced with me. I have had suitors and there are men right now that I could call and connect with if I wanted to do so. Strangely enough, I am very happy to be single and I am enjoying different kinds of relationships with men, more and better than I had before. I still try to remember to be me, confident, and most of all kind. I still have my printout of the answers and have had the blessing of sharing some of the advice with others.

My long (surprise!) response to "Are some more worthy than others?" in MetaTalk:

Calling Christians "stupid" or "ignorant" is just, well...that. And it should be flagged, and it should be deleted as if the person were attacking any other religious group. But what I'd really like to say is this:

While I am on my soapbox...I am so sick of these fragile flower ~~feminists~~ Christians who get the vapors when a guy nonbeliever goes into ~~boyzone~~ Christian-bashing behavior. I respect myself. You should respect me, but if you don't, that's your problem, not mine.

The real world is filled with guys atheists who say incredibly stupid, hurtful and ~~sexist~~ anti-Christian things about ~~women~~ Christians in the aggregate. If I let that get to me, I'd be nothing but a shrieking harridan. I would much rather simply laugh and point at them, and go about my business. I don't like it when they stare at my butt denounce my faith, but I'm not going to have a nervous breakdown about it.

And I am certainly not going to take the ~~"boyzone"~~ LOLXTIAN stuff here seriously, as most of what is termed such is just humor and goofing around from people who aren't jerks at all. I mean, what is wrong with ~~"sweater puppies"~~ LOLXTIANS? I save my indignation for real problems.

My most favorited comment is one describing the approach used by a guy who broke up with me; I was recommending it as a solid breakup approach.

This comment has taken on a life of its own, and continues to resurface in my "favorited by others" despite the fact that it's getting pretty old. I suspect that people randomly searching "breakup" find it regularly, because it rises to the top of my recent activity every month or so. It's kind of miserable, because I'm cruising along, enjoying life, and when I pop in to my profile to see what's happening, I get to relive this breakup yet one more time. And again. And again.

My other recurring favorite-grabber is my prescription for stocking your pantry.

So there you have it: my most highly-valued contributions to MeFi. How to dump someone so they won't hate you, and how to eat your way out of the ensuing misery.

Like philip-random, I just beat my previous record while this thread was still active. If it had been by a nose, I wouldn't mention it, but my previous record of 57 favorites was just blown out of the water by a post that has already gotten 96 favorites in less than 24 hours. It is a comparison of my life today with my life from a year ago - just before I got sober.
