technorati linking October 26, 2009 1:36 PM   Subscribe

The sidebar link to Technoratic is broken (they apparently did a site redesign). Um, and why does Metafilter's front page link to this "full service media company" these days?

The worst is the hand buzzer. No one sees it coming.

Technorati drank my milkshake, killed my dog, and called me a communist.

Technorati stole my truck and my girl, and then wrote a hit country song about it before I could.

Apropos of very little, I miss tenyearsofmylife.com.

"Technoratic"? Isn't that a Daft Punk song?

Speaking of sidebars, is the "Cortex Sees America" graphic still necessary?

When I've told you I was "busy now, traveling" I meant between the couch and the kitchen. Sorry if that wasn't clear.

Technorati wasn't relevant even when it was relevant.

I regularly consult Technorati for various important purposes. At least that's what I tell people on OPPOSITE DAY.

maqsarian: I gotta rock.

It was funny when Kid Koala did it in "Tricks N Treats" off of his seminal self-produced mixtape Scratchcratchratchatch from 1996. Ever since then, it's just the same joke told over and over again.

Can someone explain this thread to me? I'm confused. This was nearly the first time I've read of an error on the site that wasn't fixed by the time I'd read about said error. I get the point that the link is broken, and the question as to why it's linked at...

Ah, nevermind.

Sometimes it's best not to take the mystery out of everything.

Yeah, it's kinda weird that there's a broken link on the sidebar.

I figure it's in the actual HTML template and neither cortex nor jessamyn has the power to fix it.

I have the power, but mathowie wanted to do a little ceremony for it, so I'm respecting his wishes.

Another ceremony?! Will he not be satisfied until he's feasted on the heart of every last spotted owl?

Fine then. It wasn't a rock.

So we just killed it.

Here's the story. At one time long ago, Technorati was the only blog search engine out there and they also did a ranking thing that required you to identify yourself and your blog by putting a string of text on the page. So in order to "claim" metafilter.com in their hot 100 list of blogs, I had to set up a profile and toss the link to my profile code into the site somewhere, and so I dropped it at the end of the sidebar, down where an old "Powered by Blogger" link used to be (which is gone because we ended up using our own home-grown blog system for it).

And now it's gone.

Darn. I was waiting on the edge of my seat for the juicy details of a conspiracy involving the CIA, FBI, KGB, Teamsters, Illuminati, and Freemasons.
