Recently I needed to do some research and began to use the Ajeeb translation site. You need to be registered to use it, so on a whim I used username and password: mefi. To my surprise, they worked. I know the NYTimes has a MeFi login, what others are out there? A list would be nice.

A publicized list would also be a bit of a bad idea.

There was a general consesus a while back that while there are people who do not wish to register for free services, it would be wrong to have list of all services where common accounts exist.

A list of sites where mefi/mefi works is irrelevant. It works at any site. When you get a prompt asking you for an account name, try mefi/mefi. If it doesn't work, create such an account yourself so it'll work for the next person. Take a penny, leave a penny.

doh! good points all. Anyway is the standard login/pasword to me mefi mefi? Because I remember that some might be metafi metafi

Nadia, I don't think there are any free Hindi to English translation sites.

If it's not feasible to make a list, then at the very least there should be consistency in the username/password. If anyone's using metafi/metafi they should know it's not going to be as useful and will cause confusion.

OR people could just start using as many variants as they want: metafilter/metafilter, meta/meta, etc. So whatever a MeFi user chooses to put into the fields will eventually work. And if it doesn't work at a given site, just create a new account using that combination. I personally don't recommend it, because it increases the workload unnecessarily.

Back when I used to read slashdot, a common l/p seemed to be cypherpunks/cypherpunks. I still give it a shot at sites before I register & it still quite frequently works.

all the nytimes logins haven't worked for a long time so i've had to use my own.. sure, i could use my own anyway, but i feel paranoid about that stuff when using school/public computers...

The combination to a combination lock which will accept any combination is not a terribly compelling subject. Although it is kind of cool to think that Metafilter is marking its trail all around the Web.....
