50: Zer0 day with MC Frontalot

We ran into MC Frontalot at SXSW several times and roped him into a phone interview soon after we got back. Interview runs about 20 minutes then we recap SXSW and the past month of posts to the MetaFilter sites for another 45 min or so.

Can I just be totally clear, in re: the "getting banned in person" bit, that I was one of the people joking about in-person bannings and NOT the person making LUG comments? I couldn't figure out what that was about the first time I heard it, and now that I listened again, I'm slightly appalled at the conflation.

You guys are so adorable when you try to tell MC Frontalot what his next album should be called or his next song should be about.

Part of what is so great about MC Frontalot is how politely he listens to us when we do that. He is a wonderful man.

At PAX East this past weekend, Paul and Storm invited Frontalot out for a song during their set. They didn't give him a mic or a part or anything though, so he just stood there for three minutes, bowed during the applause, and left the stage.

Ha - Internet people get into nerdy word arguments in person too.

Heh, yeah, I only caught up on that after the fact or I would have jumped in to so "oh, no, no, no". Sorry about the vague driveby conversational misrepresentation, restless_nomad.

No worries. It was mostly weird - "Hey, my name (well, my handle (well, my Metafilter handle that I keep pretty separate from the rest of my life) got mentioned on the radio! ...In a vaguely negative light. Wait, what?"

Yeah I caught it at the time and I think I was like "Well, that was wrong but there's pretty much zero chance that r_n will hear it." Ho ho!

Here is the TAL episode where Hodgman does the bit about invisibility and flight. Apparently, most people would choose invisibility - but claim they would choose flight, because people are creepier then they portend. It's a great episode, actually.

I came here to support any and all references cortex makes now and in the future to Comics Curmudgeon.

Haters.

If you want to see some video from that Slappy Pinchbottom show, I was in the background with my camera. Self link!

This is the first time I've ever heard of anyone getting a podcast injury. Although when you think about it, isn't it amazing how far we've progressed as a civilization that such a problem can occur?

I'm imagining someone being like, "Frontalot, you should write a song about how you can write 'boobs' on a calculator."

Thanks for pointing out "It doesn't work that way" -- Broadway shows not being profitable was one of the more surprising things I learned.

The first result of a Google search on "why are CDs released on Tuesday" pulls up this wierd site called Ask Metafilter. I don't know if I trust it....

When you see Nerdcore Rising, you'll see this nerd fanboy who seems to get more screen time than the rest throughout the movie, about as much time as Weird Al. He'll be wearing a black nerdy shirt with an encryption algorithm on it, which of course he's asked to explain.

That nerd fanboy is me.
