Where's the funny April 7, 2010 12:21 PM   Subscribe

Where can I find the funniest posts on mefi?

I know it’s subjective, but there’s gotta be some sort of consensus on the all-time funniest threads, right? Like the meta thread about taters. I looked in the wiki and couldn’t find anything. Does a list like this exist?

BTW, I'm looking for funny threads (i.e. comments), not funny content posted on the front page.

Mini derail:

I would just like to say that if the anonymous person who wrote about taters/tators wants to answer the question, "What the heck is a tater/tator?" they should email me at the (non-mefi) email listed in my profile and tell me, and then I will post the answer for everyone still wondering.

I promise that I will not give away the email address you use to send it to me, and I will never try to seek out your name/username/IP address/whatever. Don't use MeFiMail -- use a throwaway email account that will not identify you. JUST DO IT. Please! I'm still dying to know what that word means in the context of the AskMe.

I suspect it's essential to the mental health of a great many MeFites that this question be answered. Really.

PleasePleasePlease?

Shakespeherian is right about this. That yahoo answers thread was not funny at all. It was a sad pile of linguistic misunderstanding and racism. Competence in AAVE without competence in the prestige dialect is a barrier, yes. We should all point out how dumb they sound, especially when they try to improvise a writing system (because none really exists yet, thanks in large part to the tireless efforts of white educators to punish its users for trying). Misspellings like "babby" are one thing, attacking an entire dialect as ignorant and stupid is quite another.

But in the end we settled on three choices: number three... "The Sprouts", sent in by Mrs Vicious of Hastings... very nice ; number two... Come on, guys, trying to restore an idiotic meme that did not have legs to begin with is a bad, bad idea*. On a personal note, here in Greece that shit is akin to joking around with anti-Latino slurs. More importantly, using the name of a small ethnic group in such a way gives the impression one values the lulz more than not offending other people. Considering all the MeTas devoted to understanding other perspectives this would be a step backwards.

Think_Long, I do not understand the cavalier attitude that any Albanian users "should shut the fuck up" if they don't like being the butt of a joke. I ascribe it to glibness or enthusiasm for that stupid Youtube comment because I doubt this is your reaction to users from Latvia or to other minorities in general. It is annoying, nevertheless. Consider that while Albania may be a dot on the map to the average American*, the U.S. wield significant influence on places where many Albanians live (Kosovo, F.Y.R.O. Macedonia, Albania).

*"Later, he fought a yeti." would be a far better meme without legs to resurrect.
**If I misread your posting history and you are not American, consider me schooled.

On our refrigerator at home*, we have an index card stuck up there that reads, "To Do: Bring back bogue."

*As opposed to, I dunno, what, our refrigerator abroad?
