We're all gonna get liquored up and get "MeFi" and "MeTa" tattooed on our knuckles.

Looks like MeFi is winning, but back comes brother MeTa!

I don't know if my parole officer will allow me to go that far outside the Van Nuys/Burbank/Glendale/Pasadena corridor, especially if CUJoe is going to be in the same room. Besides, if I don't get my weblog out of its self-induced coma before then, do you think I'd show my RL face where MeFi-ers could see it? Besides, I have a much-deserved reputation as a party vegetable (you may recognize me from Alton Brown's recent Squash episode). Besides!

i may show up.

Maybe this should be re-posted, so it doesn't fall off the bottom of the screen before more relevant people see it?

Matt has it in the sidebar, I'm sure it's fine.

I know I said I was in on the mailing list, but I may be out of town (being a holiday weekend and all). But me on the list of definite maybe fence straddlers.

I'll try to swing by that eve.

I'm there, totally. And unlike those unprepared MeFiers from NYC, I'm bringing a camera. This probably means that I'll do a gratuitous self-link the next day, and see if I can't kill my web server.

There too! Gotta see what this is all about...

Oh. This is me RSVPing. With a wifely guest. Is it OK to bring wifely guests?
posted by Kafkaesque at 3:09 PM on March 21, 2002

It's perfectly good to bring wifely, husbandly, girlfriendly or boyfriendly guests. I'm bringing mine.
posted by waxpancake at 5:33 PM on March 21, 2002

Dammit. My wife can't go. How bout inflatable guests?
posted by Kafkaesque at 2:40 PM on March 22, 2002

This inflatable mefite can't go anymore. I have a commitment halfway through the evening and I can't justify a 2 hr drive for a negative 15 minute visit. Too bad we can't have an Orange County parallel shindig. Sorry, but ixnay on my ttendanceaay.

As I'm in San Diego, it's a longshot that I'll be able to attend, but one never knows. Sounds like fun anyway! I wonder if there are other San Diego Mefites.

Excellent! And, just after I moved to L.A. this week. Now we'll see if I can find it...

That was fun, though I drank too much. The final roster was Kafkaesque, willnot, bingo, eyeballkid, y6y6y6,
lhl, Optamystic, gatordavid, stevis, perplexed, chacal, and myself.
posted by waxpancake at 12:19 PM on March 30, 2002

ok, i've got some pictures as well. I had a good time, thanks for setting this up, wax..
posted by chacal at 1:48 PM on March 30, 2002

I had a good time. Ended up spending a lot of time with Kafkaesque and Optamystic, if only because the three of us had nicotine cravings that kept drawing us outside. I'm pretty sure willnot didn't believe anything I said.

The food was good and the beer was not as expensive as I expected when I got the bill for my tab (either that, or someone else paid for some of my beer). On the other hand, they didn't serve pitchers, and despite the illusion that we had our own bar, if we wanted anything on tap, we had to wait for a waitress we shared with the rest of the restaurant to get it for us.

No girls, alas, except a couple who wandered drunkenly into our room, looked around, and left with all the dazed ambivalence of Mickey Rourke leaving his neighbor's apartment in Barfly. You wouldn't have come to any harm, rio...
posted by bingo at 2:25 PM on March 30, 2002

No bingo, I don't believe a word I said. Cause I know most time I'm just full of crap.
posted by willnot at 2:34 PM on March 30, 2002

I should add that as geeks go, I was surprised to find our group to be on the whole reasonably good-looking, well-dressed, and socially adept (at least before a few drinks, but that's the nature of the medium as it were). I'm not including myself in that range, mind you.

Also, the experience I fear has made me feel the overpowering need to get a blog. It was like being in that trendy bar for MBAs in American Psycho and not having a business card (come to think of it, I need one of those as well).

By the way, fellas...my friend's band, which I believe I rambled on about aforenight, is cutting their first record, and needs a serious website overhaul. As in, they need a completely fucking new website. It's a paying gig, will include an ongoing maintenance fee, and you would basically be receiving content from me, as I will be writing most of it (bios, timeline, concert reports, etc.). The old site is here. Anyone with an interest in talking more about this, email me. This is not going to make anyone rich, but it's going to mean a lot of exposure and a steadily increasing rate of pay if the band continues to do well.

Wow! We have some aspiring spirit photographers in our LA bunch I guess. This confirms a couple of facts:

- The get together was held in a Vietnam bunker. The Doors played in the background as we danced, and wept for our fallen comrades.

- We are, if fact, those shaking-head demons from Jacob's Ladder, which should surprise no-one.

It was a good time everyone. I just hope Bingo's upholstery was up to the challenge.

Pernods all round?

So there was a three-hour-long earthquake in LA last night? Huh.

Hi all. I've recovered (mostly) from my hangover and posted my photos here: http://www.tevis.net/features/LAME.htm

I think I got the names/faces matched up right, but if I made an error let me know. I'm going to go lay down again.

groovy pictures. the class photo turned out well.
posted by eyeballkid at 4:55 PM on March 30, 2002

My upholstery, for lack of a better word, survived. Nice photos, stevis. Now none of us can hide. Witness gatordave macking out on the waitress. I think she likes you, man. Want her number?

bingo - earlier, I really did intend on going...but I flaked out for the reason that it was Good Friday and I had previously volunteered to help out at that Mass. I figured if I arrived at 11 everyone'd be drunk and I'd have a lot of catching up to do. Being the only chick there woulda been odd, though...

...and LOL at all the shaky blurry pictures. I'm glad Matt's request didn't ruin the night. I thought it might, with everyone running around with cameras, trying to shake them as they were shooting, and everyone else trying to be in every picture so's they could be in Matt's book, the Ultimate Cool ThingTM for a MeFi member.
