I feel the need to schmoopy. Thank you, MeFi, for being there for me during the hard times. And the less hard times, but who needs praise for sticking around when things are easy, eh?
(Thank you also for not sending withering glances my way when I made all of those stupid comments.)
Thank you for the Best Answers, the page-long anecdotes, the Music posts, the "Previously"s, the Projects, the meetups, the questions I never knew I had, the flags, the faves, the painstakingly-researched FPPs, the SLYTs, the mod notes, the stars/"staff" badges, the hardcore taters, the HAMBURGERs, the snarks, the memes, the things that weren't memes but almost were, and other things I have forgotten to include here.
I bet I am not the only one that MeFi has helped, so this schmoopy is also for anyone else who might feel the same way but not want to make a MeTa post.
I don't want to go into detail here, but big ups especially to Jessamyn, ocherdracho and *s, and the many other MeFites who have, in your varied ways, shapes and forms, played a large part in keeping me from screaming WUUUARGARBL and running into traffic.
(Now if you'll excuse me, I seem to have some sort of dust in my eye.)

I've been around long enough that I've grown immensely sentimental about Metafilter. It's that time of year again where work takes off into crazy uncharted territory, and I get overworked, cranky, and don't have time for my children, much less my "online" family & friends, so I get a little wistful too, because I miss being able to participate more. You guys are an absolute rock of Gibraltar in my crazy surf right now, even if I don't seem to have the time to stop & say so, so I'll drop this THANKS right here, and get back to pounding out shirts.

I spent about eight hours yesterday in the woods in New Hampshire, playing paintball with a dozen other guys for a friend of mine's bachelor party. It was my first time every shooting and being shot with paint, and it was a lot of fun but also a tremendous amount of exertion and a lot of going OW OW GODDAMMIT and a little bit of bleeding, and also it was kind of a Zombie LARP thing at first because my friend loves zombies.
I was going to try and tie this into a metaphor or something but really I'm just incredibly sore today and catching up on the Metafilter I missed and it's really nice to be sitting down on a soft couch with a laptop and reading a bit of nice stuff that doesn't involve wondering if a half-inch wad of plastic is about to explode on my scapula.

If you put down some toilet paper first they not only won't explode, but you get minimal splashing.
