MeFi's own hashman must be somewhere in this joint.

I made a 'welcome' comment to him in the thread (because it usually takes a new MeFite a while to FIND MetaTalk) and suggested, to better fit in here, to get into Portobellos (with explanatory link). Nothing more I can do.

Some people seem to, or claim to, have the courage of their convictions. This guy genuinely does. He's not really trying to fight the case against him and therefore is willing to blog things that can be used against him. He's unwilling to snitch on someone else as part of a plea-bargain. He expects a prison sentence. And so he's using himself and his case as an example in an attempt to call attention to the wrongheadedness of laws against those sinister...entheogenic mushrooms.

He was clearly a bulk grower and wholesaler of mushrooms, with large capital investments and considerable income and this will be used against him to portray him as some sort of drug kingpin, even though he's really just an enterprising and overenthusiastic hippy who actually—this is true, it seems—tried to convince the FBI informant he was selling mushrooms to that he ought to try to stop using coke and meth and especially that he get out of the business, because those are bad for people.

In a sane society, someone like this would get, at worst, a slap on the wrist. Assuming that the activity he was involved in was still illegal, which in a sane society, it probably wouldn't be. But ours is a deeply insane society, at least in this regard, and I think there's little doubt that he will be prosecuted and sentenced as aggressively as possible. He's 62 years old, there's a chance he might spend the rest of his life in prison. Maybe good sense will prevail, but I'd be surprised. Right now he's in house-arrest; maybe that will count for time-served.

I would recommend Michael Pollan's Opium Made Easy to anyone who doesn't understand the nuances of this issue.

I was hoping it might be this guy.

Even so, the other guy is good. Welcome to Metafilter, mushroomman. And good luck with your legal struggles.
