The Side Bar is open and damn do I love the drinks there! January 26, 2012 8:58 PM   Subscribe

I'm calling out the mod team for their excellent response over the past month to my post requesting more use of the sidebar. I've read things I never would have seen before, and they've all been excellent. Thanks so much, and keep it up! This feature makes MetaFilter even better for me, and I'm sure also for others.

I too have noticed the wonderful increased use of the sidebar. It's an awesome feature of MetaFiler, and it's one of those times when the mods get to move from referee to curator. It's much appreciated.

*MetaFilTer, although MetaFiler is an interesting concept I could probably make use of.

It was nice

The sidebar has been MegaFilled!

Maybe this is the wrong place to ask this, and maybe it's been asked before, but why is the sidebar only on the Metafilter front page, and not on AskMe or Metatalk? Some of the sidebarred items are answers from AskMe, so it seems it would make sense to highlight them on both pages. People who only read Ask (like me, 90% of the time) don't see the highlighted material very often.

Lovin' the upped sidebar ante. Great work guys!

Can we have a "show us your sideburns" day? Then you can sidebar the sideburns. Next year we could do sideboards, sidecars or the seaside.

You know, I've really been enjoying the posts on the blue this week. Well done, Metafilter! You're keeping me entertained.

I see your sidebar ante and raise you awesome. Thanks mods.

Yeah, I'm happy about this. Not only does the sidebar turn me on to things I'd otherwise miss, since I don't read every set of comments, I know first hand the warm glow getting sidebar'd gives, and I think having it happen more often can only increase the overall quality of comments around here.

The warm glow I got from my sidebarrin' is still evident today.

why is the sidebar only on the Metafilter front page

I think because back in the day the front page of MeFi really was the front door to the site. Now AskMe gets more traffic than MeFi, but the sidebar there is sort of full of tools. You can follow the sidebar via the blog URL and get it on the Twitter. Here is a history of the sidebar that I am now going to go update.

Sidecars for all!

Totally agree, the sidebar is rocking!

And (I think?) it's mostly jessamyn who handles it, so especial thanks to jess for keeping it up. I vote you get awarded another gold star for the effort.

Anyway, Yay! Red velvet brownies for all.

The sidebar makes my teeth noticeably whiter and cavity free!

Yeah, Jess does the bulk of the sidebarring action. I've been trying to be a little bit better about translating my "this is awesome" thoughts into "hey I should go put this into the sidebar" action lately, but I'm slow with the habit-forming.

It's funny, a lot of times cortex will make a note in the mod-facing part of the site like "Oh hey this guy who was mentioned shows up to talk about his cool thing" and I'll see that note and make a sidebar post out of it. Other times I just like looking at what has been flagged as fantastic because it cheers me up.

I don't have as much time for the site (particularly the blue) as I used to right now, so seeing the sidebar posts on the twitters has ben a big help.
