Looking for a specific askme post about small, income generating websites. August 29, 2012 6:30 PM   Subscribe

Looking for an askme post that I am unable to locate.

The question was something like, "Can you point me to small websites that are ramen profitable for the owner and not really looking to be anything more than that?" The emphasis was on small sites that became primary sources of income for their creators, possibly by accident.

I believe it may have been prompted by Matt Haughey talking about work/life balance, so something from around that time frame?

?

I am trying and failing to figure out what the ramen profitable is a typo for.

I don't think it's a typo, elizardbits. I think it means "websites that can keep the owner supplied with ramen."

Maybe auto-correct has become self-aware and decided that it's hungry.

I don't think it is...I think it's like profitable enough to buy ramen but no more profitable than that, possibly VERY borderline living expenses.

I THINK I'm right but it may be my insane need to justify phrases like "ramen profitable".

Hmm, nothing comes to mind (I didn't really use any Ask MeFi posts as jumping off points in my talk).

"Webcomics" has to be among the answers. Throw that into your google terms.

Part of the spin of the question might have been "side projects/hobby sites that unexpectedly led to..."

Yeah or the phrase "lifestyle business" that some people use might be helpful. I can't remember this either.

Was it "What are some examples of small web apps that earn their creators a side-income? What are the stories behind them?" (A search for the words 'hobby' and 'income' turned this one up.)

Between the ramen and the monkey toes I'm starting to get hungry.

Not gonna lie, I'm totally stopping at the grocery store on the way in to work tomorrow.

...and then learning to code so I can build a ramen profitable app and/or site.
