The very short version is that, back when there was that whole Boing Boing nixing Violet Blue's content brouhaha (warning, very long thread), there was a lot of people wondering what Cory had to say since he'd been traveling or on vacation or something when it went down and was effectively mum for, I dunno, two or three days? Not very long but also sort of ages in internet drama time, in any case. Much tumult in the interim, etc., etc.

So when he got around to saying something, it was a one-liner expressing that the handling of the whole thing was "jake with me". And that immediately became a thing for little while, and will remain presumably forever lodged in some of our brains because our brains are idiots.

And on quick review it looks like maybe it was actually a couple of weeks before Cory responded finally with that, so in retrospect the "this is sort of weird silence" thing was maybe more justified after all? I must have been conflating the short-but-long duration of the initial weird BB total-silence-brigade approach to the subject before there was a thread addressing it at all, which was I think a matter of a two or three days.

I dunno, I refuse to spend the rest of my morning rereading that thread. It's like visiting TVTropes except not as much fun.

For the record, I have seen Boing Boing but didn't know anything about that phrase and its connection to the site.

It was just something I always heard growing up in central Illinois, meaning "He/it/that's cool man. Thanks, No sweat." sort of catch-all phrase.
