After some discussion here, it appears that A) there is a desire among MeFites to play fantasy basketball and B) although there may or may not be a league this year already, in either case there is clearly interest for fantasy basketball that is not satisfied.

So who wants to play some fantasy basketball (presumably using Yahoo)? So far thecjm and myself are down. I'll set up a Yahoo league once we've got eight.

Any buy-in would have to be on-the-side rather than done through Yahoo, as otherwise it means only Americans can play in the league.

But I'm fine for a commitment of five to ten bucks, personally.

I've only ever been in two money leagues and both had members who lost interest. Just saying money's not that great a motivator, especially not $5 or $10. I always chuckle when someone says their league is more competitive because it has a money reward.

People will lose interest regardless if it costs $ or not. For some, it just means that they lost $10, ya dig ?

How does fantasy basketball work? Like, focusing on the main stat line would hurt, say, Dirk Nowitski. Is it like some fantasy hockey leagues with +/- points?

the stat categories are: Field Goal Percentage (FG%), Free Throw Percentage (FT%), 3-point Shots Made (3PTM), Points Scored (PTS), Total Rebounds (REB), Assists (AST), Steals (ST), Blocked Shots (BLK), Turnovers (TO)

You go head-to-head with another team each week. The goal is to win as many categories you can against your opponent.

So there aren't any fancy stats but the category selection is broad enough that I think the top fantasy players pretty decently reflect the top actual players.

You missed it! It was a blast -- I got called a homer for drafting Kawhi Leonard in the 6th or 7th round. Kid is gonna have a breakout year! Then, after I drafter Derrick Rose, I found out he's maybe still out for the year. I'm oblivious sometimes.
